Education: Stubbington House, Fareham; RMC, Sandhurst Career: Received first Commission in the Duke of Wellington’s Regt, 1906; served in India till 1913, when seconded to the Egyptian Army and posted to the Camel Corps in the Sudan; served in Darfur expedition, 1916 (Sudan medal, two clasps, and 4th Class Order of Nile); served in Royal Flying Corps in Salonika, 1916, and in the Hedjaz Sector of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force; Inspector-General of Gendarmerie, Transjordan, 1921, and Director of Public Security, 1923; raised the Arab Legion, 1922 (King’s medal, Victory medal, 1st Class Order of Nahda, 2nd Class Order of Istiqlal, Zikra Istiqlal; Syrian Order pour la Mérite); Min. of Civil Defence, 1939; Home Office, Acting Inspector Constabulary, 1942. Commander of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, 1934; Laurence Memorial Gold Medal, 1940.
