Which military did he serve in? Who was he captured by? Annotate sources please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.239.60.140 (talk) 18:26, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He was a Nazi and it is astonishing that this completely and utterly (and conspicuously) left out. ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.12.8.247 (talk) 07:36, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any sources that state he was a Nazi. If he was, that deserves to be sourced and added. If he was not, it would be best not to say he was! Being drafted into the German army doesn't make a person a Nazi. That fact that he served in the German army is now in the article (as of 3/31/2020); and that he was captured and held for a long time in the US as a POW. Supposedly (this is not in the Wikipedia article but is at http://www.providencesingers.org/Concerts06/Season14-15/Mar15Biebl.php) he enjoyed his POW experience a lot: “It was a good time. I learned to know the Americans and a little bit of American life and democracy. We got enough to eat. Good food, just like the American soldiers had. ... I was allowed to arrange a choir and songs for it. The Americans helped me to arrange concerts with choir, soloists and chamber music.” Perhaps this helps explain his long postwar relationship with American performers. Maybe I'll add that in.David Couch (talk) 05:23, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
