France Olympic football team → France national under-23 football team – Per WP:COMMONNAME: sources are referring to this team as the France U23s (see FFF source.) Also, like in most cases, the "general name" of the team is the under-23s, which "takes the place" of the Olympic team at the Olympics. This is the more general name in that the team also competes in friendly matches outside of the Olympics. And again COMMONNAME. Comment – I understand the point of the change, but it's worth remembering that Olympic teams precede the under-23 period. From 1952 to 1988, only athletes with professional contract restrictions could play, regardless of age. Svartner (talk) 14:07, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what the criteria was, and from a momentary point of view it is correct. But from a historical point of view, no. Svartner (talk) 14:41, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - does this team only play at the Olympics? If so I see no need to move it. GiantSnowman 19:58, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it only plays in the Olympics in that it doesn't compete for other official competitions. The U23s play friendly matches ahead of the Olympics, but that's it. Otherwise, the qualifying is done by the France Espoirs. Paul Vaurie (talk) 06:38, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be a selection bias there, or maybe it's not entirely consistent all around— I've noticed other teams located at under-23 but that play in the Olympics (Brazil national under-23 football team for example). Paul Vaurie (talk) 10:57, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - from a WP:COMMONNAME standpoint, this move is correct, and there is no historical basis against this move. To any reviewer, I'd suggest closing the discussion and moving the article. If anyone opposes, they'll either have commented or see the talk page in the future. Right now, no opposition. Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:22, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose – Men's Olympic teams are allowed to have three players who are over the age of 23, while the under-23 teams that play the qualification matches are not. This means they are not equivalent to each other. Also per Svartner, there is a long history of men's Olympic tournaments preceding the current age restrictions. Every nation who has qualified for the Olympics, regardless of era, should have separate articles for their men's Olympic and under-23 teams. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 18:17, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
