Dead-heat[edit]

I don't quite know what to make of "Moslem walked over and Mr Crawfurd and "Mr Jones" (Graham's nom-de-course) divided the stake." If Moslem walked over in the deciding heat, why was the prize divided? And why is the race always recorded as having joint winners. This is annoying me, as it's the sort of thing I feel I ought to know.  Tigerboy1966  09:28, 23 June 2012 (UTC) Some contoversy here[1] Sounds as though the walkover was to decide the race for betting purposes only. [2]. And so the bookies had to pay out on the outsider Moslem instead of the strongly fancied filly. I smell a rat.[reply]

Alternative explanation:

Crawfurd: I say Graham, or Jones, or whatever you're calling yourself today, I had two hundred guineas on my fellow to win, and I know you didn't have a bean on that beast of yours. What say we split the stakes and you let Moslem walk over. I'll make it worth your while.

Graham: Sir, what you are proposing is illegal, immoral and unsportsmanlike. I accept.  Tigerboy1966  11:44, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Derby[edit]

I wonder why Formosa missed the Derby. Was she ever entered? Blue Gown was a decent colt, but wasn't rated much higher on home form than his stablemate Green Sleeve, who had been kicked into orbit by Formosa at Newmarket.  Tigerboy1966  17:11, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, neither Formosa or Moslem were entered in the Derby [3]. Froggerlaura ribbit 22:48, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
