Editor Axxxion removes reliably sourced and attributed content; dishonestly claims that it's the "irrelevant opinions of bloggers"[edit]

The user removes reliably sourced and attributed expert opinions as to what the impact tariffs would have and whether China is actually a currency manipulator. This is long-standing content from the 'Political Positions' article which was recently forked to this article. The expert opinions are those by academic economists and econ think tanks, and covered by reliable sources. The editor claims these are the "irrelevant opinions of bloggers", which either demonstrates dishonesty on behalf of the editor or that the editor is wholly unfit to read and evaluate sources. The removed material has no relevance to this article whatsover, while very relevant material ought to be added. Which I am trying to do. The subject of this article is the Trump adm′s foreign policy that in the strict sense is 2 weeks old.Axxxion (talk) 16:53, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A new section or graphic for changes in foreign policy positons[edit]

This would be helpful as either a section and/or graphic that shows reported changes in Trump's foreign policy positions from candidacy through present. The current organization of the article makes it difficult to identify and appreciate he changes, Thoughts? Humanengr (talk) 22:36, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Candidate or president?[edit]

Most of the material in this article - for instance, the multiple detailed paragraphs about who his foreign policy advisors are - is about what he said about foreign policy as a candidate. Shouldn't we be updating this to be about his foreign policy as president - for example, who his advisers are now and what he has said and done since becoming president? Or is there some kind of unwritten consensus for this to be about his positions as a candidate? --MelanieN (talk) 16:03, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This has been debated in the recent multi-move discussion and its move review. Consensus was to keep the current articles about Trump's policy stances as a candidate and fork out new articles about his actual administration's policies as they develop. This process could start with a clearly-delimited section about concrete policy moves of the Trump administration in the current articles. — JFG talk 18:42, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Really? Then shouldn't the name of this article reflect that? If I was looking for information about his current foreign policy, this is where I would look. Is there an article somewhere about his foreign policy as president? --MelanieN (talk) 22:39, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No such article yet. Maybe time to create it, although not much can be said about foreign policy actions of the new administration. Tillerson is barely getting started touring the world, nothing of substance has yet happened. — JFG talk 23:25, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we can at least say who his foreign policy team is and what they are doing. There is stuff happening that needs to be accounted somewhere. I (not knowing the consensus) added something to this article about his recent meeting with Merkel, and I notice that someone else added something to the NATO section. What would we even call that other article? Or what would we call this one? I think it is time to start thinking about it at least. --MelanieN (talk) 00:30, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The new article would be Foreign policy of the Donald Trump administration, similar to all prior presidencies. But before forking it out, we should create a separate section here, listing what the administration has been actually doing, comparing and contrasting with candidate Trump's campaign statements (which is the meat of this article). As soon as that section is long enough, it can be forked out. Personally I have not edited this particular article, so I'm fine if you want to take the lead on this mission… — JFG talk 17:28, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, OK. Before this conversation I was assuming the updates would go in each separate section. So presumably the post-election section would follow the same format as the current article? This sounds like a big job, but I'll try to make a start. Probably I'll work in a sandbox rather than in the article. Are the two of us the only people watching this article??? --MelanieN (talk) 17:43, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, as soon as things are not in the news any longer, very few editors remain… Perhaps Humanengr, who commented above, would like to help? — JFG talk 18:05, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN and JFG: Looking fwd to your sandbox. In line with what I indicated above, many will be interested in changes. So both prior to and subsequent to forking, changes in positions should be identified; not sure where, how for readability, etc. Thoughts? Humanengr (talk) 18:29, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there's a lot of cleanup to do, given that this article grew out of news snippets being added as the election campaign was ongoing, with often a partisan dose of criticism. For example, the interview when Trump said "you have to take out their families" (of terrorists) is blown out of proportion in the "Overview" section; this can't be serious. I'm willing to help. Concerning the more immediate actions, I think we need to clearly state in the lead section that this article covers the wide spectrum of positions expressed by candidate Donald Trump, fro which we can excerpt a few key ideas which are then starting to be reflected into his presidency's actual policy. Then a new section called "Foreign policy of the Trump administration" would list the recent speeches that have been given and actions that have been taken by both Trump, Tillerson and other advisors involved in foreign policy. — JFG talk 18:57, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a good approach in the interim. --MelanieN (talk) 20:53, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@JFG: ...and you'd better fix the lede and opening section soon. Somebody just changed it to say it is about foreign policy during the presidency of Donald Trump. Of course that's what everyone assumes. I did. And I'd better get going on my "administration" page. Sheesh, I had other things to do today. --MelanieN (talk) 21:43, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN: I have clarified the lead, reshuffled the overview section and opened a new dedicated section for the administration's actual foreign policy. — JFG talk 23:10, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the camps regarding having the name reflect that this was candidate trump, and potentially make a separate president Trump FP page Bgrus22 (talk) 21:27, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need for a new article about Trump as president[edit]

Based on the discussion above, there is currently no article about Trump's foreign policy as president. This article is about his positions as a candidate and is intended to remain so. What we now need is an article to be called Foreign policy of the Donald Trump administration.

Fool that I am, I have volunteered to work on creating that article. It will be an enormous task and I solicit the help of anyone interested in this area. The draft is at User:MelanieN/Foreign policy. The first part will be fairly easy: trimming his positions as a candidate down to a paragraph or two. That's something anyone could help with, taking on just a section or two without an enormous commitment of time. First please look at my comments/instructions at User talk:MelanieN/Foreign policy, and after you finish a section, note what you have done on the talk page. Thanks for any help! --MelanieN (talk) 22:42, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Great. And we can use the "under construction" section I just created here. — JFG talk 23:12, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trump Doctrine[edit]

The "Trump Doctrine" article currently reverts to this page. Could someone here have a look at my "skeleton" for a potential "Trump Doctrine" article? If I get overall approval, I will go ahead and publish it. Here it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Vhstef/sandbox#Trump_Doctrine Vhstef (talk) 20:17, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

I'm not sure if there was a discussion to move this page to Foreign policy of Donald Trump (2015-2016), but shouldn't the title at least be Foreign policy of Donald Trump (2015–2016) (with an endash for the date range), or might we change the title to reflect his positions during his candidacy/campaign? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:52, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Volvlogia: Pinging you since you moved the page. Also, can you please share why you moved the page? Links to existing discussions would be helpful. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:53, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just for clarity, sorry I forgot to put in an edit summary. --Volvlogia (talk) 23:02, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
