Youngest Undisputed Heavyweight champion

Patterson was born January 4, 1935 and became undisputed heavyweight champion of the world on November 30, 1956. That makes him 21 years, 8 months and 26 days old at the time.

Mike Tyson was born June 30, 1966. He won the WBC title on November 22, 1986, the WBA on March 7, 1987, and the IBF on August 1, 1987. That makes him: 20 years, 3 months, and 23 days for the WBC; 20 years, 7 months, 8 days for the WBA; and 21 years, 1 month, and 2 days for the IBF and thus undisputed title. No matter how you cut it, Tyson was younger than Patterson. --Ektar 06:34, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

Regardless of how old Mike was it's impossible for Patterson to have the title of Undisputed Champion anyway. Other legitimate sanctioning bodies like the WBC, IBF or even WBO didn't exist to dispute who the champion. In real terms you would have to say when Mike had the WBA championship in comparison to Patterson and when he had the WBC and WBA championship in comparison to Ali. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.77.153.197 (talk) 11:02, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Subject to Debate, but Floyd was youngest

Remember, when Tyson beat Spinks on 6 27 1988, he was almost 22, remember, Spinks was linear champion, therefore since Spinks came back (for the money) that makes him a champion to beat, thus by beating him, Tyson became true champ, remember, I've read this and it makes sense, it does not matter how many champs you may have, only one counts. Floyd is lineal champion, still youngest at 21, 10 months. On May 2 1956 he was moved to heavyweight division, after rocky marciano retired, with fifth rating, he was quickly moved to fourth position.

Nationality

Isn't it a bit pedantic to say "US American" for his nationality? If people object to the term "American" without qualifiers, why not just say "Nationality: USA" or "Nationality: US". I've never heard anyone in practice referred to as a "US American" in my life. -- HowardW Aug 28, 2006

Marciano vs Patterson

I thought, I share few words with the public. Well... I was browsing thru some various boxing sites, there are some strange people out there, but wow, you can find something for everybody. Many people criticize the Rock (49-0-0) for avoiding Floyd. But that is not true. I will not go into details here. But somebody just told me that back in the old glory days of boxing (let's face it, boxers today are really bad, except for few who barely go the distance) YOU HAD TO BE 21 TO FIGHT 15 ROUNDS. Ok, Jan 4 1956, Floyd was to fight rocky, 2.5 minutes, 2 rounds exhibition in Los Angeles, CA, big deal. Nobody cared. Meaning, if Rocky was to fight Floyd, you would have to wait until January 1957 AT LEAST. He was a ranked light-weight, he was never a ranked heavy-weight. So, there you have, but earliest Floyd could have fought Rocky, it would have been Jan 6 1956, that was Friday. He would have been destroyed, he simply had no experience with the real heavy-weights. What more can I say. Somebody sent me some links on Rocky vs Baker, I do not know, but this bothers me. Jim Norris did not arrange the fight on time. Baker-Valdez fight was December 7th 1955, if you want to fight January 2 1956, you have to organize that fight earlier. Norris did say he wished to match the winner of Valdez-Baker match in February 1956, thus we had Baker-Hurricane match. SO it's safe to assume, February 3rd 1956 would have been Rocky's last bout and Baker was 13-0, Baker's dozen. 45-5 total. So i thought, have Baker fight Patterson. If there was a time machine, the winner to fight Rocky, best opponents with best records of their respectable eras. I just thought I share this with boxing fans. Patterson-Rocky 1956, no contest at all.Boxingwear

The discussion page isn't for opinion like this and nobody cares. Rocky Marciano also didn't care. Floyd Patterson was very eager to fight Rocky because it would have been a big gate. Rocky Marciano didn't fight anymore for whatever reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.77.153.197 (talk) 11:13, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Photograph of grave of Floyd Patterson

Yesterday I uploaded a photograph of the grave of Floyd Patterson into this article. Somebody deleted it almost immediately. I have reinserted the photograph of his grave into this article. I cannot understand why somebody deleted the original upload of Floyd Patterson's grave. It is additional work for me to upload the image a second time. Too many people are doing the wrong editing on Wikipedia.

Floyd Patterson became heavyweight on May 2 1956

Floyd was moved to heavyweight division on that day from light heavyweight. Originally he wanted to fight archie for light heavyweight title, then move on and get benefits, Moore was lucky rocky retired, thus kept his title! Keep in mind Floyd is still youngest lineal heavyweight champ at 21 & 10 months, Tyson is at 21, 11 months, 27 days! Good to know my edits are with other encyclopedias, stayed here long enough lol, the best is yet2com! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.22.123.124 (talk) 00:35, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

How can Floyd be the youngest lineal champion when he didn't defeat Rocky Marciano? That's the definition of the Lineal Champion, the person who defeated the last champion. You can't be a lineal champion by definition if you did not defeat the preceeding champion. All that happened was he filled the vacated WBA belt. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.77.153.197 (talk) 11:08, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Paterson, new jersey, not floyd patterson

The Paterson reference in the song "Hurricane" refers to Paterson, NJ, where Rubin Carter was arrested, not to Floyd Patterson. The Lyric is "In Paterson that's just the way things go."
