Joshua and Lyon

I made an article on Joshua and looked over the article on Lyon. There's supposed to be a debate on whether to keep Lyon or not. I think it shows important info and describes him realy well, and therefore, should not be merged with Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. I made the Joshua article because even thougth he is a minor character, I felt the importance of The Prince of Jehanna needs to be shown. Do you agree? July 1st, 06 Robertorulez

Monster Section

Maybe it's just me but does a section that goes into detail about each monster type really have a place in this article? I was thinking maybe a blurb somewhere appropriate that would say something along the lines of 'Monsters in this game are creatures of evil summoned by the Demon King. etc.' and something about this being one of the few times that non-human enemies have shown up in FE games. Long story short, I think we should nix the monster section and add something else, maybe a section on the different countries.Axem Titanium 19:34, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Oh, wow! I just got owned by a bunch of numbers! Good game! Anyway, all kidding aside, that section really only detracted from the article because it included only information ripped directly from the game descriptions that doesn't really apply to a wiki article at all. Cleaned up and polished a bit, it would do fine in a Wikibooks page on Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, but as it was, it needed to be pulled. In other news, I was halfway through a really awesome edit for the story section but my computer decided it hates me and shut itself down before I could save it. You might see it tomorrow. Information

I decided to change the structure and titling a little so it doesn't exactly reflect that of the Blazing Sword article, typed up a few new articles ("Gameplay Mechanics" and "Countries and Areas"), resembling that of the Seisen no Keifu article. But is it looking large enough already? - Tetsuya-san

Character List

I think that we should change the descriptions of the characters to the ones that appear in the game. Those who own the game could easily find these by going to the character's status screen and pressing "R," then highlighting the character's name. This will make the descriptions more uniform, and leave no room for inaccuracy (For example: Gilliam serves King Hayden of Frelia, not Fado of Renais.)

Along with some other minor edits, I've taken the liberty of making the descriptions of the characters match those found in the game. I haven't unlocked Lyon yet, but his will be changed thusly when I do.

What I dont understand is why he is called a venerable sage king instead of a venerable ranger king, it must refer to his wisdom Derktar 01:44, July 30, 2005 (UTC).
I think they intended to make him a sage at one point. The players' guide makes many mistakes, it constantly spells "Rennac" as "Rennec", etc... I think it was merely an oversight.

Images: Vigarde, Demon King, etc.

As a recent addictee of this game, I've enjoyed this article very much and found it very useful & helpful. I am particularly taken the images from the credits that have been integrated in (Vigarde and Lyon w/ Sacred Stone, Eirika & Ephraim w/ Demon King, Gerik's Mercenaries, etc.), & I think any of them would be wonderful as wallpaper. However, I have not found those images anywhere on the web other than this Wikipedia article, and only in a very small size that doesn't enlarge well. Would anyone happen to know whether those images exist in wallpaper size anywhere on the web? If so, where? Any help or insight would definitely be appreciated. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

I know this for a fact, as I was part of it. So I deleted the McCartney entry in the article. If there's any real point to recording McCartney, it'd be all the attention givin to him. McCartney had to do with Paul McCartney, who was thought dead.

Separate Magvel?

All of the other continents from the other Fire Emblem games – Elibe, Tellius, etc. – have their own articles. Is there a reason Magvel doesn't? One minute response time? You're pretty fast; I'm impressed. If you think they should be merged, why did you flag them for proposed deletion instead of merging? And I'd like to see more than a two word explanation for the deletion proposal.
Also I am aware of the article you referenced. However, I am not using that as an argument (as warned against,) but rather as a starting point for a discussion – i.e. because similar things have articles, we should investigate whether or not this should also have its own article. Wait, you're saying that you don't want to merge the continents because they're unencyclopedic? That means you should either merge and source them, or delete them. I'm aware of that ZXCVBNM. I just feel that if they're so policy violating that they shouldn't be in this article, then they'll still be policy violating if it gets merged, which will bring the destination article down to a lower standard. This involves taking out minutiae, completely revaming the story section, referencing anything that can be referenced and clearing up the prose. I've got other things going on like coursework, so I can't edit every day. I'll probably be making edits now and then, and not going for mass reference surges. Thank you. On a related note, anybody have an idea what this sentence is supposed to mean? "This system introduces new aspects into the game's strategy as it is possible to have characters attain their maximum level less than halfway through the game." What new aspects are there? Right, just bout everything's done except the story section. I'm not confident enough with my grasp of the storyline, so I probably won't do the story and leave it for a User more knowledgeable about the story. I just think that it should be similar in approach to the Fire Emblem and PoR pages. I woudln't advise modifying the current section, but totally delete it and then re-write it. If I haven't vanished by then, I could give it a try. I was thinking of doing the story from scratch, and I'll try and do just that, after that encouragement. By the way, do you (or anybody) know what the term "pangaen" is referring to? "Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones takes place on the pangaen continent of Magvel." Pangaea was the Earth super-continent millions of years ago. It was when all the continents were all connected into a super continent. Pangaen in this context would be referring to a continent that isn't divided or broken by large bodies of water. Ashnard Talk Contribs 17:03, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Future projects

Oh yeah, thanks to Aveyn Knight too, who speedily fixed the story section. I really see no reason why this shouldn't get GA status. Once this attains GA status, that will be all of the main FE articles. The Japanese articles can't really be sourced, and GoD would fail the stability criteria of GA. It's nothing much. It's not too hard to come in towards the end to help fix some things. Most of the article was already pretty decent (albeit not GA material), and it was mostly cleaned up and sourced already.
I guess GoD fails the stability criteria because it's not yet released in English? Otherwise I can forsee it being a GA candidate. Anyway, how about working on the lists of Fire Emblem characters (any game)? Aveyn Knight 13:47, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
You're right, the best idea is to leave GoD until it's released in English, otherwise, it'll get failed outright for no stability. It can be turned GA then, though. As for the lists, Wikipedia lists bypass GA and can only get FA. For a list with hardly any out-of-universe notability, I'm not sure if that's possible. I think that there is a possibility of getting some of the character lists to Featured List status. Right now they aren't very list-like though, more like a collection of mini-articles without any of the references. The articles could benefit from being boiled down to that which is encyclopaedic, especially in terms of verifiability.
Other projects to consider:
  • Monshō no Nazo and/or Seisen no Keifu to GA. Already being on VC in Japan makes me think they are the most likely of the old games to be translated and released on VC elsewhere. Both articles could use a lot of improvement.
  • Fire Emblem to FA. As the series article (also being the highest ranked on the importance scales by WP:VG and WP:NIN) it should try to be there to give people the best idea about the series in general. Tedius already started it on its way with the peer review nomination.
  • Path of Radiance to FA. As the prequel to the soon-to-be released latest entry, it is likely to see some additional attention in the near future. Might as well give people the best article we can.

I'm liking the willingness to contribute and take the Fire Emblem articles further, guys. For the proposals:
  • I'm concerned about Monshō no Nazo and/or Seisen no Keifu. It all depends on the reliable sources that can be cited. Are there even any reviews we can cite? Plus, I don't know if the story and gameplay can be cited. Hopefully, it can. This comes from exclusivity to Japan.
  • I really want Fire Emblem to get to FA. The thing is, there's a big gaping whole called "development and history". To my knowledge, I don't think the information is out there about how Fire Emblem came together and its subsequent development through the years. Anybody have any ideas? Sections like "Music" need to be expanded
  • For PoR to get to GA, What can we add that isn't there now? I can only think of the SSBM references in the future.
  • To my knowledge, the content of the lists have barely any out-of-universe notability except from the Lords in Super Smash Bros. A Featured Article can't comprise of in-game quotes.

Do keep in mind that Featured Lists have different criteria than Featured Articles, see FL criteria vs. FA criteria. I'm not sure what level of information we can source while still maintaining a good list. Infernal Inferno 23:10, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree that Monsho no Nazo and Seisen no Keifu will be quite difficult to source. However, if we look, we might be able to find some things. The latter is a relatively popular import/emulation choice. There are less people knowledgable about them though, obviously. As for Fire Emblem, another trouble is that it has been a long time since the earlier games were released and, hence, less remaining documentation about the earlier stages of the series. I have a handful of interviews, but translators would be needed and I don't know 100% what the content consists of. Also the interviews probably won't cover everything. All in all, I don't see the development and history progressing ever, let alone on an encyclopedic level (much like the Fire Emblem TCG). Aveyn Knight 23:19, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Has anyone seen a Featured Article about a video game series? None of the ones I looked at were beyond Good Article, and many were only B-rated. I looked at the series articles for Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Devil May Cry, and Castlevania. I would like to know if the task has even been accoplished, or if Fire Emblem would be breaking new ground. Also, has anyone noticed that this discussion no longer has anything to do with references? Looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games#Example articles, it doesn't look like there are any featured series articles, but, like what's been said, Development and History needs to be dealt with before we should commit to that. Infernal Inferno is right about the criteria for both articles and lists. I think people should view this: Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of characters in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. It states this:
  • Needs citation—can be done, although it would comprise of in-game quotes mainly.
  • Table of Contents needs shortening—that's done.
  • Needs fair-use rationales—that's done.
  • Lead needs expanding—that can be done.
  • Explain class changes etc.—I think that's in the lead.
  • Needs to be annotated with appropriate information—I'm not sure what is meant by this.

Path of Radiance characters is good. I don't know what the last point means either, but perhaps it's referring to making statements accessible for non-fans? For example (hypothetically), annotating a statement that just says "XXX is a spirit-charmer" (without explaining what a spirit-charmer is).
Another idea, which I had after browsing the existing Featured Lists- how about a page on List of Fire Emblem Media (or titles). Of course, creating a new page based on an existing similar one isn't valid, but I'm pretty sure there's enough media to list compared to, for example, FZero or Final Fantasy. The BS Fire Emblem games could also, finally, get a mention there, as well as the more notable Fire Emblem mangas. Aveyn Knight 15:19, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't know enough about them sort of media lists to comment really. Maybe you could ask at WP:VG. It sounds like a good idea though. One thing worth bringing up: what is the difference between a list and an article? Characters of Final Fantasy VIII seems smilar in its format to the Fire Emblem lists, yet is named as an article. There's a whole bunch of pages about lists, I guess WP:LIST is as good a place to start reading as any. I'm thinking the Fire Emblem lists are somewhat misnamed, as their content does not resemble any of the other lists I have looked at, especially the featured lists. The articles might be better named by dropping the "List of" portion of the name, making them like the character articles you mentioned; articles which actually are not lists because their name does not include "List of" in the title, a requirement for Lists on Wikipedia. Hooray for semantics.

List of characters in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is currently a list because it's a enumeration of things, with no analysis. Characters of Final Fantasy VIII is a list and a regular article, because it gives an analysis of the subject with the "Cast creation and influences" and "Cultural impact" sections. "List" isn't something to oppose to "article"; a list can either be a standalone page or be a part of another article (see WP:LIST#Types of lists); this is the case with Characters of FFVIII (if you remove the list from that article, there would still be an article, but if you remove the list in the FE:PoR list of characters, there wouldn't be anything left apart from the lead). GA on hold

A solid start, however some relatively minor issues:

  • Lead: reads a bit awkwardly. The last sentence, talking about its overall ranking, especially so. If you really need help improving the prose, I could prolly help you, however I'd have to fail this GAN to do so.
  • Content: comprehensive? I don't know. If the characters and gameplay are similar to content on another page, summarise it and do a main article link.
  • reception: a good rule of thumb with the Reception section is that if the table is longer than the section, you either have to cut the table or expand the section; in this case, do the latter. What did the positive reviews especially praise? Was there a difference in ranking based on area in the world? Was anything else frowned upon in the game? What about its predecessor? Why did it get a better rating? These kinds of things...
