"With the area of 685 km² it is the 3rd largest island in Finland."

"Fasta Åland is the largest island in the archipelago, extending over 1,010 square kilometres,"

What's this supposed to mean? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.88.187.188 (talk) 22:19, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That the archipelago extends over 1,010 square kilometres and not the Fasta Åland island itself? Or what did you mean? Besides, however, the 1st and 2nd largest islands of finland, Soisalo and Sääminginsalo are somewhat unclear in the respect if they are islands at all as caan seen from the articles. We are not calling Peloponnesos or Jutland as islands, and Sääminginsalo in same manner is detached from the mainland only by an arificial canal, as can be seen from the article. --Urjanhai (talk) 11:02, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Strangely, the text gives 740, 879 and 1010 as "estimates". The infobox gives 685 km², the figure I have seen and I think it is (or sometimes was) considered the actual area. I don't know how much an island could grow in 30-40 years, but I doubt it could be over 300 km². 85.76.46.36 (talk) 04:16, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

And considering finnish wikipedia has only one figure: 685 km², not mentioning the other ones. Of those three figures, the first two are sourced, though from foreign ones. The 685 figure is also given in Suomen Kuvalehti's lake, island & river special published 1987. I do not know those sources' credibility on this matter. 109.240.47.238 (talk) 16:07, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
