Mortgage Backed Securities

The header claims FM securitized the mortgages it bought from banks. My understanding was that MBS are a rather recent invention, and historically FM just bought the mortgages from local banks (freeing up capital for more mortgages) and held them to maturity.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.97.15.242 (talk) 20:36, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Turns out your wrong. Fannie Mae is always abbreviated FNMA by the way.67.164.188.243 (talk) 08:29, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Purpose of the article

I came here looking for information on Fannie Mae, not a news story explaining what led to the financial crisis by the fourth paragraph. What is the point of "Contributing Factors and Early Warnings" in this wiki? More importantly, what does it have to do with "History"? 165.206.43.5 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:42, 2 April 2009 (UTC).

I am inclined to agree, this article doesn't really explain how Fannie Mae works or how they really differ from other Agencies, and it seems to be heavily negatively skewed. Judging from the commentary on the rest of the page most of the others who have commented don't seem to understand how FNMA functions either. They also seem to be trying to attribute a lot of incorrect blame to FNMA for the credit crisis when the investors are the ones to blame. Either way subprime lending is a thing of the past.67.164.188.243 (talk) 08:35, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
