DYK?[edit]

I am curious as to whether this article is developed enough to be considered a DYK. It has been expanded a large amount within the past few days, and it has got a good chunk of prose. However, I do kind of doubt the organization factor of the article so far. Any thoughts about the Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout article for DYK?Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 00:53, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article would qualify in theory because it was heavily expanded in the past five days. However, the article received a high influx of edits with varying degrees of quality. The most expansion came from 86.12.45.207 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), most which is unsourced and poorly written, probably in violation of WP:GAMECRUFT. The article will need a comprehensive rewrite before it can be proudly presented on the main page. IceWelder [] 06:49, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That does make sense. What else could we expand upon? Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 03:28, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
All the central elements need some work: Lead, development, reception, and base gameplay. All claims need a source and the Minigames section needs to be heavily condensed/rewritten. Sources are plenty, but I lack the time ATM to rewrite it myself. IceWelder [] 15:01, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure how I'd condense that Minigames section though without diminishing the content coverage of types of minigames (as it's an important aspect of the game that diversifies the game's complexity). Base gameplay seems overall half-complete, but I myself haven't played that game, so I wouldn't know what else there is in that game. Where can I find a list of suitable and unsuitable gaming websites? Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 03:07, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need to list every minigame there is, especially since more will probably be added. It should be sufficient to give the numbers and some notable examples. As for sources, there is WP:VG/RS, which also has a search engine. IceWelder [] 09:04, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It seems as though the most significant conceptual mini-games within the Fall Guys game are: races, survival, team matches, and final rounds. Much of the race-based mini-games are primarily either dodging obstacles, navigating along challenging map formats, or a mixture of the two. Much of the survival mini-games are based on dodging obstacles or navigating along challenging map formats, or a combination of the two. Much of the team matches are about, of course, teamwork, but the most notable mentioned is "Team Tail Tag", which is shown across multiple sources to be notoriously "annoying" and prominent among players. I don't hear many sources talk about the final round, but it's definitely worth keeping a reasonable mention, as it does participate a large amount of the gameplay involved in this multiplayer online game.
When it comes other parts of gameplay, I don't see anything else within Fall Guys other than joining a match with a set group of randomized mini-games and then earning currency at the end of a match to purchase more cosmetics. There's no other alternate gameplay besides joining in a server to play a set group of randomized mini-games.
(One more thing, how do I do the pull down replies thingymajiggy? I forgot the name of that template.) Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 09:35, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You mean this template?
The summary you are providing for the minigames is already pretty good, you could just use that one, amend and expand where necessary, and add sources for the individual statements. Compare this also with how some of the Mario Party games are written (4 and 5 are GAs, although promoted in 2008). Having a good summary of the general style of the games is always better than a long, poorly navigable list. I will be able to assist on some parts during the weekend, though note that it would then be too late for DYK, unless there was another significant expansion or we quickly brought to GA status (see WP:DYKRULES). IceWelder [] 11:07, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have improved a majority of the article. How does it look at the moment? It covers a majority of the gameplay of the mini-games in the game in encyclopedic style, I think, and it covers many of the major notable mini-games. I didn't quite add enough references for the race-based mini-games, but the sources I added and existing sources all are suitable for verifying the points about race-based mini-games. As for the newly released news about a new update, there is news that they are planning to add more additional content into the game in the future. Today is the day where I heard that a TF2 Scout skin is available in two halves, and I think that's where I could possibly continue. But we are currently at the stage where we are likely all the way through as of yesterday.
Do you think this page is now ready to DYK? Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 02:17, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, besides the fact that I forgot to "clothe" the bare URLs and that I should add necessary references to each of the race-based mini-games... Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 02:21, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The article looks alright and I will give it an in-depth read tomorrow or so. You should nominate the hook soon, though, as time is running out. Please check the criteria I linked above. Regards, IceWelder [] 21:31, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alrighty, Template:Did you know nominations/Fall Guys is done. Feel free to join the discussion there. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 23:51, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@IceWelder: How's the in-depth read of the article? Currently, the article looks fine right now, although it still could do with some more expansion on the out-of-universe stuff. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 02:17, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I did a few quick fixes. What is probably still missing are season rewards, as well as some expansion on reception. There might also be more stuff for the development department, but I would need to look up sources for that. Regards, IceWelder [] 08:00, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • No QPQ needed as it appears this is your first nomination. The article has been altered by 5x. My owm preference is for Alt 2. As for the source, there’s actually a Washington Post article on it so that should be used instead of something directly related to it. All told it’s neutral, copy vio free, and meets the criteria. @Hahnchen moved this article from "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" → "Fall Guys" per WP:COMMONNAME on 13 August 2020‎, @Michael14375 just moved it back because the "Full name should be used". I don't think either editor is aware of the other's move, so I would like to discuss this before move-warring. I, personally, support the short title since most source, primary and secondary, use the short name for the game, rarely ever mentioning the subtitle. Also pinging major contributor @Qwertyxp2000 for their input. Regards, IceWelder [] 10:36, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:COMMONNAME is policy. Also see WP:CONCISE. Even going by the guideline WP:SUBTITLE, you'll see that it defers to Commonname and Concise. The vast majority of sources will just refer to the game as Fall Guys. Fall Guys is unambiguous, so the subtitle is not necessary. - hahnchen 11:04, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look at the Wikipedia page for CS:GO, and saw that the article uses the full name of the game instead of the more commonly used abbreviated term. I thought the same would apply here. Michael14375 (talk) 20:14, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Due to technical limitations, you cannot actually use CS:GO as an article title. Shortening it to just Counter-Strike, or CS, would not be unambiguous. Are you OK with this being moved back to Fall Guys, I don't really want to wait for a full move request. - hahnchen 08:08, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you can move it back. Sorry for the inconvenience, I thought I was doing the right thing. Michael14375 (talk) 11:34, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I hear people and the internet talk more about "Fall Guys" than the full name. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 03:58, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fall Guys is the common name. OceanHok (talk) 17:58, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Page move denying consensus[edit]

Fall Guys was just moved to its title prior, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. This move denies the conversation that just happened right on top of this one. -MegaGoat Contribs 16:05, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Frozenimpact:, are you aware of the discussion? -MegaGoat Contribs 16:08, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted the move per the established consensus. The most recent move is always displayed in a huge, red box. The user must have purposefully ignored the comment from my move, which mentioned the policy and foregone consensus. IceWelder [] 17:12, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fall guys full name[edit]

Shouldn't the full name "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" be used? — Preceding unsigned comment added by RubyKDC (talkcontribs) 02:04, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, per WP:COMMONNAME. See also both above discussions. IceWelder [] 06:14, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I actually think that maybe we should have the vote again. It was done very quickly, as a frequent contributor to this page I didn't even know about the discussion. We are obviously seeing some alternate opinions which tells me that the vote maybe shouldn't have ended as soon as it did. Personally I think not using the full game is somewhat ridiculous, and we are one of the only outlets not to refer to this game in such a way. --Deathawk (talk) 17:36, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

we are one of the only outlets not to refer to this game in such a way

How so? The vast majority of reliable sources out there calls it just "Fall Guys" instead of the full name. Hence, WP:COMMONNAME applies. Additionally, a simple Google search returns 60,700,000 results for "Fall Guys" -"Ultimate Knockout" but just 10,100,00 results for "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout". Yes, it's overarching with non-reliable sources, but 50 million is quite a margin. IceWelder [] 17:47, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fun fact: funnily enough, several days ago, the "Fall Guys" category on Twitch was switched to "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout". However, this still does not mean we should still change the name of the current page name. I'm just stating that something out there exists. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 02:05, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and definitely "Fall Guys" after Mediatonic changed the name to exclude the "Ultimate Knockout". Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 23:56, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The shorthand "Fall Guys"[edit]

How should we address the shorthand name "Fall Guys"? I feel like coverage of the shorthand name "Fall Guys" is currently missing. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 02:19, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is analogous to the full name, just like "Google" is to "Google LLC". The explicit mention can be omitted since it is pretty obvious. IceWelder [] 14:39, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I concur with IceWelder.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 20:41, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The full name should be used[edit]

I know that “Fall Guys” is the common name and it has more search results on Google, but “Fall Guys” is not the games actual name. The title of the game is fall guys: ultimate knockout, and Wikipedia is supposed to be written formally, so it would only make sense to use the real name, not the short one/common one. IT ONLY MAKES SENSE

United States, not United States of America; United Kingdom, not United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We don't follow "formal" formats, we follow WP:COMMONAME. (CC) Tbhotch 17:43, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I find it weird how this article decided to remove the Ultimate Knockout from the game's title LittleMAHER1 (talk) 00:04, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The article title follows WP:COMMONNAME. The WP:OFFICIALNAME is still the first thing readers get once they are inside the article. IceWelder [] 11:47, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
also Epic Games, Mediatonic's parent company decided to rename Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout to simply "Fall Guys" following the transition to free-to-play. ThatOneGuyThatLikesPortal (talk) 14:02, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how to edit this myself since the page is locked, but under Release, the paragraph beginning with "On 18 November 2021, Mediatonic announced threw there Twitter" should be "On 18 November 2021, Mediatonic announced through their Twitter".

Second paragraph needs re wording.[edit]

First ever post on wiki but the whole second paragraph reads terribly and does not make sense. An example "Eventually, the number of players get down to one" should be "goes down to one" or "last remaining" 90.252.166.191 (talk) 02:20, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced/non-notable (?) paragraphs in Reception section[edit]

The following paragraphs have been added to the end of the Reception section:

The addition of Epic Games Accounts being mandatory for the release of Season 6 caused a bit of backlash from fans due to the game working fine without the use of a Epic Games Account up until that point and due to them being mandatory and not optional.
The game going Free to Play also caused backlash from fans mainly due to people feeling ripped off after paying for the game only for it to become free. There was also a bit of controversy when it was announced that the Steam version would be taken down and replaced with the Epic Games Store causing some people to refund the game.

As well as being unsourced, they don't seem worthy of inclusion in the article - these don't really have any impact on the quality of the game or its overall reception - at best, they seem to be minor grumbles relating to Epic's acquisition. Also, the second paragraph is contradicted elsewhere in the article:

'Legacy Players' (players who paid for the game before it becomes free) will be given a 'Legacy Pack' that includes cosmetics, costumes, and the next season's paid season pass for free."
The game would also be taken off the Steam store and be replaced with the Epic Games Store, however those who have purchased the game on Steam will still be able to play and receive updates.

Should these two paragraphs be removed? If not, are there are any sources to back up these specific claims of user unhappiness? Randomwellwisher (talk) 09:39, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would suspect that these paragraphs be removed. Ideally, any claims that may be disputed should be removed unless backed up by a reliable source. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 00:04, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
