Oppose until boosterism, MoS issues, and lack of basic descriptive information addressed

  • Coeducation is the prevailing norm so there's no need to mention it in the lead unless it is not the case (e.g. Wellesley, Moorehouse, etc.)
  • "the New England region of the United States" should simply be reduced to United States
  • Book titles should be italicized not bolded
  • Repeated use of "In X," throughout recent history. Similarly, this reads like a succession of pro forma press-release clippings and repeated wikilinks to previously linked articles (Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J, for example)
  • Major gap in the history between 1949 and 2000. What of post-war expansion, racial integration, antiwar protests and student demonstration, declining government support, etc.?
  • Lead paragraph in academic programs is rather naked boosterism and automatically disqualifies it from GA status in my view until it is removed
  • The academic section is missing basic descriptive information about the university which can be garnered from the Carnegie Foundation, Chronicle of Higher Education, and National Center for Education Statistics. Carnegie classifications, accreditation, enrollment distributions, academic calendars, academic honors, tuition and fees, student enrollments, admissions information, financial aid, etc.
  • Centers of distinction is likewise a boosterish name for a boosterish section that explains little but lauds much.
  • The academic section as a whole needs to be prosified rather than employed embedded lists
  • The ranking section likewise needs updated rankings and to be condensed into prose rather than bullet points. It should probably also make use of Template:Infobox US university ranking.
  • Use of bolded text throughout the article (especially "Arts and enrichment") does not conform to WP:MoS
  • The region subsection is entirely tangential to the topic at hand and should be removed as the article is not a brochure for Fairfield
  • The structure is all out of order from what WP:UNIGUIDE specifies (Alumni should be last section, for example)
  • Publications and media needs to be prosified and merged into student activities
  • Notes of interest is a trivia section and its content needs to be merged into history

Not an insurmountable list, but it does suggest that the article needs a thorough scrubdown. Madcoverboy (talk) 13:29, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
