Surely, regardless of the outcome of this discussion, Fab Four and The Fab Four should be treated similarly? I confess I've boldly redirected one to the other! They seem to be something stronger than synonyms! Andrewa (talk) 15:44, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

On second thought, I agree with AjaxSmack and Andrewa that The Beatles is the primary topic for Fab Four. However, since there is an article about a tribute band actually called "The Fab Four", that article should be titled The Fab Four with a hatnote to The Beatles per WP:PRECISION. It's very unlikely anyone would search for or link to "The Fab Four" rather than to "The Beatles" with the expectation of landing on The Beatles, and "(tribute)" is a rather obscure qualifier. Agree with AjaxSmack's proposal to move dab page to Fab Four (disambiguation). Station1 (talk) 19:58, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

How about The Fab Four (band) as the name for the article on the tribute band by that name, with a (perhaps uniquely worded) hatnote to The Beatles? Disagree that nobody will search for The Beatles under the name The Fab Four; If you didn't know it was a nickname for that band, and ran across it in an old (or reprinted) magazine article, that's exactly what you'd do. Assuming Fab Four etc eventually redirect to The Beatles, we might need multiple hatnotes there, or a uniquely worded one, to make it quite clear that there are tribute bands by this and similar names and make navigation to those articles easy. Agree about the hatnotes if The Fab Four is redirected. Normally "(band)" would be the obvious and better qualifier, but since the Beatles are also a band (or "just a rock group" as John once said) you would need the hatnote; I'm guessing that's why someone came up with "(tribute)" in the first place, so I'm really not sure which is better. • Redirect - Have the term "Fab Four" bring up Fab Four (disambiguation), as it always was before and should remain with anything that has multiple references. "The Fab Four" is actually trademarked by, THE FAB FOUR. They are a Beatles tribute in California and have trademarked the name, as you can see on their website, www.thefabfour.com (at the bottom). "Fab Four" should if nothing else come up with the page that includes anything referencing the Fab Four, not just go straight to the Beatles. Again, this name is TRADEMARKED by the Fab Four tribute band in California and is merely an unofficial NICKNAME of the Beatles. If you do a google search for fab four, the Fab Four tribute band comes up #1.

EDIT: Actually, if you google search for fab four, the tribute band's Wikipedia article even comes up before the Beatles Wikipedia article. While everyone here is making assumptions that people searching for fab four are looking for the Beatles, a simple google search proves with real data that that is wrong. Per Wikipedia guidelines, Fab Four (disambiguation) should redirect to Fab Four under your proposal. If you read the bottom of the Fab Four's website, it does not say "Fab Four" is trademarked; however, trademarks are irrelevant. Many people have not heard of the tribute band The Fab Four but most people know The Beatles are nicknamed the Fab Four. If someone says "Fab Four", the first thing anyone will think of is The Beatles. This has been discussed above and the consensus was that The Beatles is the primary topic of Fab Four.
