SIG Sauer P220[edit]

  • The P220 was initially imported to the United States as the Browning Double Action (BDA) and then as the P220.

The SIG Sauer P220 contains this unsourced assertion. If it's true, it should be added to this article as well. If it isn't, it should be deleted. Rezin (talk) 22:47, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • The title of this page and the description of the photograph are in error. This handgun is actually named the Browning Hi-Power BDA as are all the variants of this handgun.

The original Browning BDA was produced in 1977 through 1980 by Sig-Sauer in Germany. I HAVE this gun in .45 ACP. The production series was 395 and my gun is year code RP (1978). The Browning BDA was made in four versions, three from Sig-Sauer and one from Beretta (BDA 380) which were branded as Browning. The Browning BDA was made available in 9mm x 19mm Parabellum, .38 Super and .45 ACP calibers in the USA. The Browning BDA 380 was made in .380 ACP caliber (9mm Kurz). [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]The P220 and newer Sig-Sauer guns are NOT related to the original SIG P210 series. The Browning BDA was originally the first model of Sig-Sauer P220 which was developed from the design called the "Petter-Browning" which was created in France in the MAB35 but based on the original John Browning Hi-Power design. History [6]

The Browning BDA 45 was based on the first model of the P220 and has a European style bottom catch for the magazine which holds only 7 rounds. When SIG-Sauer started to sell the P220 in the USA they already had moved to a button release 8 round magazine.

The Browning BDA Hi-Power was created first in 1983 by FN and was created to compete with the likes of the Sig-Sauer P226. The BDA Hi-Power has several variants and was discontinued in 1999.

Note that some of the web sites which talk about this firearm have incorrect information. Digitallymade (talk) 05:03, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Link Dated[edit]

The link leading to FDF page is a dud.

Also I have this feeling that the FDF doesn't use the HP-DA anymore 86.60.208.189 (talk) 16:25, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
