Views of Historians

EEMIV removed this line:

"Based on other historical and genealogical evidence, many historians believe it is more likely than not that Jefferson was his father. Some continue to dispute that conclusion."

It was uncited, of course. However it is true. Recent Jefferson biographers Joseph Ellis, R.B. Bernstein, and Andrew Burstein are just three examples of former naysayers who've come around to change their views. Of course, the Monticello Foundation, which owns and operates Monticello and employs a team of Jefferson historians, has done that as well. Introductory Paragraph

Changed from 'because Jefferson had no male descendants' to 'because Jefferson had no legitimate male descendants' - the former doesn't make sense, because there's a good chance that Jefferson did have male descendants. The new version sounds awkward, though - maybe it should be 'confirmed' or similar.

It can be found on page 196 of Annette Gordon-Reed's book, Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings: An American Controversy.
