Rodin Debt[edit]

The claim that Beckett couldn't afford to pay for a bronze sculpture of Eve Fairfax by Rodin seems to contradict the conventional Rodin sources, which say that Fairfax broke off the engagement before the marble statue could be completed, and the commission was therefore cancelled. Rodin produced five versions of the bust between 1903 and 1917; the V&A's bronze mightn't have been for Beckett.

Sorry, I don't have time to research this in detail, or read the Holroyd biography cited (which may explain the situation better than the Guardian reviewer's summary!) - anyone else want to try? Ministry (talk) 17:55, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
