Influence of the 1901 on other countries[edit]

I really doubt that the adoption of this gun by the Norwegians significantly affected any other countries' choice of artillery as they were not the pioneers of of that sort of recoil system; the French popularized it in the Mle 1897, the famous French 75. Is that what your sources say? Otherwise I'm inclined to delete that statement.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 15:57, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I kind of wondered about that one too, but that's what the source says. And its a good source too, Norges Forsvarsforening is an old and serious organization, and there's a quoted source for what the NFF article says (the 1983 book 7,5cm feltkanon M/1901. Historien bak dens utvikling og innpassing i tiden 1905 til 1940 by lieutenant colonel Svend Soelberg). I'll quote the passage in Norwegian: "De norske erfaringer førte også til at de store våpenfabrikanter ute i Europa, alle gikk over til tilsvarende rekylsystemer på dette tidspunkt." (My translation to English: The Norwegian experiences also led to the big weapons factories in Europe all adopting similar recoil systems at this time.) I think that the good colonel was a little over optimistic on its influence on the artillery designers of Europe, but you do have a source. So cite the statement, and you could even expand on it if you felt like it in a note. You might add some information on its service in Finland, such as when it was finally withdrawn from Finnish service, etc.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 17:20, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
