Almost defeating Kira?[edit]

Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone please tell me where it was learnt that Ed almost beat Kira and the Freedom?

I must concur with WarpObscura, if it is indeed true that Ed was on the brink of defeating Kira, then please post the source of said info. Otherwise I to find this very difficult to believe...
