Untitled[edit]

I spoke with Ed Simmons several times between 1998 and 2002, and he was markedly "out of it", being generally unaware of things not immediately related to his daily routine. He was quite friendly and enjoyed talking to people (though most people avoided him). He was very slight of stature, had only two or three teeth, and generally wore a black nylon turban, light green tights, and a tutu. I saw him wandering naked along Arroyo Blvd. several times. The police carried clothes in the trunk of their patrol car for him, but often found hin resistant to putting on anything more than a shirt. When Hans Bethe came to Caltech in 2002(?), Simmons attended his lecture, and Bethe and Simmons seemed to be on hailing terms, and exchanged greetings.

1984-1988, He was a frequent patron of Caltech's Millikan Library, and I recall him being in possession of an alumni library card which entitled him to use during the restricted 5 PM - 1 AM hours. He owned a small pickup-truck camper which he parked near to the campus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MathInclined (talkcontribs) 04:51, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
