Question

"It must be noted that most business at Ocean City are owned not by natives but by Baltimoreans, thus rendering the flavor of Ocean City life unlike that of the rest of the Shore."

Can someone cite cite a source? I do not believe that this statement is factual. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.68.112.9 (talk) 04:19, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Notable people

Making a proper list is hard - but directly linked to this topic are a few possibilities (ignoring recent ephemera): Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Harold Baines, James Chalmers (loyalist), John W. Crisfield, Anna Ella Carroll, James Kemp, Bishop as well as the suggested Frank Perdue, James Cannon Jr —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tedickey (talkcontribs) 00:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

there used to be a category for all of them....hundreds...instead some admin went and dismantled it all in favor of categorization by county. WillC (talk) 22:32, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Capitalizations

Is there a reason why some of the words are capitalised, e.g. Southern Accents, in the link and again in the text?

This link goes directly to a Tom Petty album; someone with more nouse than me may be able to direct it correctly.

Other examples are Colonial times and State (in State Senators). I'm loath to edit this if there's a good reason for them- I can see there is obvious reasons for Eastern and Western Shore. Freestyle-69 (talk) 06:35, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Style Notes

Where I work, we use Associated Press style, and random capitals are not allowed. The "Eastern Shore" is recognized as a capitalized and distinct region. The "western shore" is not recognized by AP, USGS, and many other sources.

"Colonial" should be cap if referring to the historic era.

"State" only cap if you're referring to "State Senator Joe Blow."

East is West...

I find it amusing that it's the western shore of Maryland that is referred to as the Eastern Shore, and vice versa. Of course, long historical usage makes it "correct", but if the same logic were followed generally, the Eastern Seaboard (shore) of the USA could include California, and the West Coast of the USA would include Maine, North New York and Georgia. Obviously the full title should be "The Maryland Section of the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay" 90.240.39.38 (talk) 21:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Your comment makes no sense. Just sayin'.

Merge proposal

I am proposing the merger of Eastern Shore (proposed state) into Eastern Shore of Maryland#Secession. The text of the (proposed state) article is almost entirely duplicated by the "Secession" section of Eastern Shore of Maryland, so I don't see any reason for a separate stub-sized article. Merger implemented. Folklore1 (talk) 17:26, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
