Article is wrong[edit]

This article is absolutely wrong, as the Republic of Florence was never called Duchy of Florence. Even if it was a hereditary monarchy, the official name was still Republic of Florence. The article should therefore be remerged with Republic of Florence. 2A01:CB09:D01C:BC55:2550:92B0:4C03:F0ED (talk) 19:20, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed there was never officially a "Duchy of Florence". The Duke held the title of "Duke of the Republic of Florence". The papal bula that in 1569 created the Great-Duchy of Toscana (see here: https://www.heraldica.org/topics/national/bull1569.htm) stated it was being created out of the Republic of Florence. Therefore, this article (Duchy of Florence) should be merged with Republic of Florence. Arrasarro (talk) 13:32, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okey, done, all content has been merged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arrasarro (talkcontribs) 09:49, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, there has never been an entity officially called the Duchy of Florence. There have been Dukes of the Florentine Republic. This article should be merged with that Republic of Florence. Dan Palraz (talk) 18:31, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
