Benjamin Cole[edit]

I don't see how Mr. Cole could have "authored" the law that created the zoo in 1954. According to The Last Cacique: Leadership and Politics in a Puerto Rican City (by Jorge Heine, University of Pittsburgh Press, Jun 15, 1993), Mr. Cole graduated from college in 1957, and had been nominated as a candidate for the legislature in 1956 (p-59). This was his freshman term, and although he evidently was at least influential in getting Mayaguez declared as the site for the national zoo (p-62), it's hard to believe that he "authored" the law two years before he was a legislator.
