Date of founding and founder[edit]

There's info in Treasury of Lives which says the 3rd Dorje Drak established the monastery [1] and his subsequent title of Rigdzin made him also the 1st Dorje Drak Rigdzin. In Rigpawiki, [2] it says the founding date is 1610 by Rigdzin Ngakgi Wangpo, which is the 3rd Dorje Drak Rigdzin. So, the RS used in page to state the 1st Dorje Drak established the monastery (Dorje (2009): Footprint Tibet Handbook. 4th Edition. Gyurme Dorje, pp. 197–198.) could be incorrect, as could be the template date, but book quotation isn't provided. Any other RS one way or the other? Thanks. Here's RS from a Reference on page [3]: Ngari Panchen Pema Wangyal (mNga’-ris Pan-chen Pad-ma dbang-rgyal) (1487-1542) founded Ewam Chogar Monastery (E-wam chos-sgar dGon-pa). His tulku reincarnation, Jangdag Tashi Tobgyal Wangpode (Byang-bdag Bkra-shis stobs-rgyal dBang-po sde) (1550-1602), enlarged it. And, Soon, it was felt that this location was unsuitable for the monastery. In 1630, Jangdag Wangpode’s son, Rigdzin Ngaggi Wangpo (Rig-‘dzin sNgags-gi dbang-po) (1580-1639), counted as the Third Dorje Drag Lineage Holder, reestablished the monastery at its present location. Because the rock mountain behind the monastery has a footprint of Guru Rinpoche Padmasambhava (Gur-ru Rin-po-che Pad-ma ‘byung-gnas) and a naturally formed crossed vajra, people considered the site very special. The monastery was named Dorje Drag, literally Vajra Rock, in honor of this auspicious sign. The fuller name of the monastery, Thubten Dorje Drag Ewam Chogar, is an amalgam of this and the original name.
So, it seems the earlier name was Ewam Chogar Gompa. The RS says it was built by Ngari Panchen Pema Wangyal (1487-1582) and not by the 1st Dorje Drak, Rigdzin Gödem; then enlarged by Pema Wangyal's tulku Jangdag Tashi Tobgyal Wangpode (1550-1602), and not the 2nd Dorje Drak, Lekden Dudjom Dorje. Then, the RS agree it was relocated - but either in 1630 or 1632. The RS says Jangdag Wangpode’s son was Rigdzin Ngaggi Wangpo, and the gompa was renamed to Thubten Dorje Drag Ewam Chogar, known of as Dorje Drak. The son would be the 3rd lineage holder/1st official Rigdzin.
These are definite differences in RS. If accurate, notable enough to include. Any other RS on these details or dates? Pasdecomplot (talk) 15:37, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
