Is this really needed?

"Similar to many fighting games, the aim is for the player to reduce their opponent’s HP to zero." This line, along with others similar to this pointless nature, are not needed in the wiki. Could someone please modify it so it doesn't sound so terrible? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.87.23.99 (talk) 21:24, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

I would think that this should be necessary for this particular fighting game, as one who had not seen anything about it would likely be confused by the multiple number values and bars on the screen. Also, I'm guessing due to its nature as a "crossover fighting game," there seem to have been a lot of comparisons to the Super Smash Bros. (series), which does not use an HP-based system. --Demitel (talk) 15:48, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

InterWiki links

Is there anyone who could modify the interwiki link of Your Favorite Enemies to redirect to the existing page "Your favorite enemies" Or by any way change the name of the "Your favorite enemies" article to make it capitalized like such:"Your Favorite Enemies"... That way the interwiki links are suppose to work... Thank you very much Sophenemy (talk) 17:40, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Untitled Comment

Just a note: I dont know if the title is Dissidia Final Fantasy or just Final Fantasy Dissidia - since almost all FF games have "Final Fantasy" first (except for Crisis Core: FF VII), so I created the article with that in mind, its just that the logo seems to say otherwise; that it might be Dissidia Final Fantasy.

In the Infobox, I wrote Amano as the illustration artist, I don't know for sure myself, its just that the style definitely looks like his, when comparing the logos for FFXIII and FFVXII. The only thing we know for sure is that Tetsuya Nomura is the Character Designer.

Miffy900 06:10, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

There is Amano's signature the bottom right side of the illustration (under the guy who looks suspiciously like CHAOS. Kariteh 08:10, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

o yeah. lol know i see it. Miffy900 10:18, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

that was surely quick! i created an article with the exact wording as in the official teaser page's head. oh well :) it's definitely Dissidia as the main title. — Bluerです。 なにか? 18:45, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Warriors of Light, Kuja, etc.

"The game will reunite characters from other installments of the Final Fantasy series, including the Warriors of Light of the first game, Zidane Tribal and Kuja from Final Fantasy IX, as well as Garland (installment of origin not known yet). Chaos will make an appearance as the god of darkness, while a new character, Cosmos, will appear as the goddess of light."

Is there a reliable source for this? I have traced the information as far as here. The article offers no sources, so it could be the originator, or it could just omit mention. Do we really know this information is correct? It seems like a rumour to me.--Teggles 06:38, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

yea it seems just like wild speculation to me. but it kinda seems plausible - the CHaos guy in the logo really looks like him. Miffy900 07:20, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Shonen Jump begs to differ [1]. Kariteh 14:37, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, that's all was needed. Thanks :) --Teggles 19:11, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

The Garland in Dissidia is from the first Final Fantasy.--67.174.128.249 16:57, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it was already confirmed, but thanks. Kariteh 17:52, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
I was just saying cause the first post in the section said it wasn't known which installment he was from.--67.174.128.249 22:44, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
No, it was already corrected by the time you posted. Kariteh 07:36, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it really Sephiroth, or did the reporter mistook Kuja as him, because initial screenshots have Zidane "duking it out" with Kuja. — Bluerです。 なにか? 09:35, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

The report mentions both Kuja and Sephiroth. Zidane fights Kuja and Cecil fights Sephiroth apparently. Kariteh 10:45, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
The report by IGN is the only one to state Cecil and Kain being in this. To the untrainted (And IGN is horribly innacurate) eye, Garland and Light Warriar are extremely easy to mistake for Cecil and Kaine. Until an actual screenshot of Kain and Cecil are shown, I would call for removing their names from the main artical. I'm definetly doing this myself one way or other. IGN is unreliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChipNoir (talkcontribs) 04:23, 14 May 2007
That sounds plausible, since there is no mention of Garland and the Warrior of Light in the article, whereas all other previews mentioned them, not to mention the scans that came out. — Bluerです。 なにか? 05:43, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

The genre is given as "action game" here, but from all screenshots and video I've seen, it seems to be a versus fighter. Is there any evidence to back up either genre? The S 07:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Square-Enix USA did announce that they would be adding more characters, so who knows, maybe the characters you like might appear in Dissidia. User:Werehog21 5/22/2009 11:59 PM (UTC)

date

the dissida website has a date on it but i can not read japanese can someone tell me what it says —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.135.32.236 (talk) 11:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

It's basically an advertisement to the Dissidia game corner at Square Enix's booth they're opening at the Jump Fiesta 2008. — Blue 12:52, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

New Characters?

From what I've seen, Amano has done sketches for Dissidia with some confirmed villains.

Villains: Garland (FF) Mateus (FF2) Cloud of Darkness (FF3) Ex-Death (FF5) Kefka (FF6) Sephiroth (FF7) Ultimecia (FF8) Kuja (FF9) Unknown (Seems like Jecht from FF10)

Source: http://r-amano.cocolog-nifty.com/kumaud/2007/05/post_0230.html

Also, it seems Tidus has been confirmed in the new trailer at Jump Festa, according to http://ff7ac.hotcafe.to/ DarkRyan75 (talk) 03:56, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Edea

I heard somewhere that Edea from Final Fantasy VIII had been confirmed but it wasn't an official site so I was wondering if anybody else had a source that might confirm this. Also I haven't heard anything of Ultimecia being confirmed and I didn't see a source in the article, can anybody confirm this too?--67.174.128.249 (talk) 17:02, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Ultimecia is confirmed. Scans released recently shows her fighting with Squall. And I don't think Edea will ever appear as a villain counterpart. WizzieBlue (talk) 01:14, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Wasn't it supposed to be Ultimecia? — Blue 01:20, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Alright thanks, it's probably just cause it's a fan site that I heard about Edea from, it's usually accurate so I thought I'd mention it.--67.174.128.249 (talk) 20:35, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Tidus?

Does anyone have evidence that Tidus was confrimed? SuperSaiyanCrash 8:13 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah is there already any screenshots or scans available about him? I thought people mistook Emperor Palamecia for him due to his hair but I can't be so sure. oh well we'll have to wait. WizzieBlue (talk) 13:49, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

He was confirmed by numerous people who attended Jump Festa 2008, pretty much every Japanese website that reported on the game mentioned him being in the new trailer. WtW-Suzaku (talk) 13:00, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Poster of the Villains / Table for Characters section

Doubt anyone realized this, but there was a big Yoshitaka Amano poster illustration back at the Square-Enix Party 2007, and it was apparantly also at Jump Festa 2008.

Photographs of individual villains, with artwork/screenshots to confirm their identities, are here: http://r-amano.cocolog-nifty.com/kumaud/2007/05/post_0230.html

In order, the villains depicted are: FF3's The Cloud of Darkness, FF8's Ultimecia, FF2's Palamecia, FF's Golbez, FF6's Kefka, FF5's Exdeath, FF7's Sephiroth, and FF10's Jecht. No photograph was taken of the FF4 villain, or any villains for FF11 or 12.

With this knowledge, I propose we place a table in the characters section, rather than listing the characters as they are now. If you don't wish to include the villains depicted in the poster for lack of more credible sources (IE Famitsu or V-Jump, or whatever), then they can be excluded.

Something like this:

Title Hero Villain
Final Fantasy Warrior of Light Garland
Final Fantasy II Firion Emperor Palamecia
Final Fantasy III Cloud of Darkness
Final Fantasy V Exdeath
Final Fantasy VI Kefka
Final Fantasy VII Sephiroth
Final Fantasy VIII Squall Leonhart Ultimecia
Final Fantasy IX Zidane Tribal Kuja
Final Fantasy X Tidus Jecht

Or, for the time being:

Title Hero Villain
Final Fantasy Warrior of Light Garland
Final Fantasy II Firion Emperor Palamecia
Final Fantasy VII Sephiroth
Final Fantasy VIII Squall Leonhart Ultimecia
Final Fantasy IX Zidane Tribal Kuja
Final Fantasy X Tidus Jecht

I think it would be prudent to at least format it with the latter, if that blog post isn't good enough a referance for the various villains. WtW-Suzaku (talk) 13:00, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm liking this idea already. But I'd go with the latter table. As usual, verifiability. With only one published source it's pretty hard to let it stay per WP policies and whatnot. But I like this idea. — Blue 13:05, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Seriously. Why would they make a poster of all the bad guys who are NOT in the game? Those characters are going to be in it, so why did people get rid of the info that was put here?--Kamiccolo33 (talk) 10:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Because of its speculative nature. The way I see it, information in Wikipedia must be Verifiable. The information we have is not solid enough, with only one snapshot of the poster and nothing else confirmed by Square Enix. See also the Reliable Sources required by Wikipedia. — Blue 11:59, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Cloud?

Hey since Sephiroth is the villian, does that means maybe Cloud will be comfrimed? Because it is likely. SuperSaiyanCrash 12:56 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Likely and Confirmed are two completely different things. WtW-Suzaku (talk) 15:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Seems they're making Cloud's appearance a surprise or something? WizzieBlue (talk) 09:48, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
The other character could just as easily be Zack, considering the fairly recent release of Crisis Core. Probably best not to jump to a conclusion at this point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.236.36.137 (talk) 16:24, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

zack to me is the least one, he was only a hero in a prequel, and he had no true important role other than to explain genesis.....anyways, cloud is already confirmed, and zack has no real grudge against sephiroth to be mortal enemies.

cloud is best suited since he had a longer history with sephiroth (24.249.176.77 (talk) 20:08, 5 January 2009 (UTC))

Editable skills?

I've heard of the selecting of skills as well as equipment on the internet too. Is this true?

Please sign your comments. From what I understand the skills aren't "editable", but rather, characters have at least two different movesets, which players can choose between. Demo reports, I believe, have indeed confirmed that characters have changeable equipment, and will also earn gil and experience after battles, though these features weren't explorable in the demos, so their functionality and purpose is yet to be seen. Unfortunately, I don't have any links handy, as it's been quite some time since Jump Festa. WtW-Suzaku (talk) 12:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism

Over the few days, the characters section has been subjected to much vandalism. If this immature crap doesn't stop, I will have to suggest that the mods put an edit lock to this article. SamSandy (talk) 06:26, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

A good number of IP edits appear to be good-faith edits, so IP blocks rather than semi-protection might be a better plan of action. 124.180.27.159 (talk) has already been warned by another editor. Naming disputes

It seems the game's official website ([2]) is going to be used as the article's authority for English names. If this is going to be the case, I recommend using the game's official website as the source where applicable. Matt Fitzpatrick (talk) 17:25, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Sine final fantasy "Agito" 13 an d final fantasy "versus" 13, shouldnt the name be "DISSIDIA": final fantasy?

Agito and versus within the ff13 name have lower cases so its ok to have lower cases on them, but DISSIDIA is full in capitalization, so shouldn't they be all capitalized?(Haseo445 (talk) 16:48, 8 January 2009 (UTC))

Colon Use

It would seem as if DISSIDIA's full and proper name is DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY, with no dividing features whatsoever (such as a colon or the hyphens in the COMPILATION titles). For my take on the non-use of a colon, please see CHAIN OF MEMORIES's discussion section. T.J. Fuller, Jr. (talk) 06:16, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Locke?

Kefka is confirmed but in the picture, Locke is definitely the guy with the bandana and red sword above Zidane. I'm suprised no one has even talked/mentioned this! 130.13.63.65 (talk)----- —Preceding undated comment was added at 08:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC).

You're sadly mistaken. The past scans, the trailer and even the official website confirms the character you are talking about as Frioniel/Firion from Final Fantasy II. So don't jump into conclusions based on mere appearances.SamSandy (talk) 14:30, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
I also would have sworn that the character pictured was Locke. Odd. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.217.237.44 (talk) 17:50, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Composers - Uematsu?

I'm sure we should put him in the Composers section of the infobox, seeing as he originally composed much of the music used in the game. But I thought I'd err on the side of caution and put it here first. Yellow Mage (talk) 09:10, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Who is credited as the composer/musician of the game as in the game's credits/official information should be the one mentioned. — Blue 10:33, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Gabranth

Unless I'm missing something, I believe Gabranth needs to be removed from the villain chart. I didn't look extremely closely, but to my knowledge nothing cites him as a villain. In fact, in the screenshot that is the basis of one of Gabranth's current 2 cites, he is seen with Cosmos and Shantotto. That would seem to imply that he is on the Hero side, if anything. Either way, he hasn't been said to be on either as far as I know and thus shouldn't be placed into the Villain chart just because it makes the Hero and Villain charts have an equal number of playable characters. Dfsghjkgfhdg (talk) 04:59, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Like Jecht, Gabranth is considered a villian because he is mainly fighting against the hero's party --Numyht (talk) 22:21, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
This still needs to be sourced. Nothing in the current sources even implies him being on the villain side, so something needs to be found that does show that (gameplay video, whatever). Dfsghjkgfhdg (talk) 06:13, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Gabranth opposes Shantotto as a villain in the trailer he was introduced in, he is originally a villain, his victory theme is the villain theme and not the hero theme, and his artwork faces to the right as the other villain artworks do, while the heroe artworks face to the left. But if that's not enough, then what else do we do? Move Gabranth to the hero section? We have no sources that say he's a hero either. Remove him entirely? Now we're leaving out valid information important to the article. The Clawed One (talk) 06:17, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I never said to move him to the Hero section, just that we needed a reliable source that placed him as a villain. Surely there has to be something online at this point that shows a full roster that would confirm him as villain. Dfsghjkgfhdg (talk) 01:17, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

[3] - they say he's alligned with Chaos, but based their theory on my aforementioned point about which way his artwork faces. The Clawed One (talk) 06:24, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

The victory fanfare is all you need to cite who under which category: if it's the normal-version, they're a hero. If it's the hard-rock version, villain. Since Gabranth's one is the rock variety, he's officially a villain.

Dissidia's Next Release Target: Korea

Fans also in Korea will be getting their take on this Final Fantasy fighter as well. Here's more by PSP QJ

"While everyone wanting an English version for Dissidia has to wait until mid-2009, it clearly doesn't help that Korea gets their own version earlier than most of us. And they'll be getting some freebies too.

Having their cake and eating it too, Koreans will already be able to purchase Dissidia: Final Fantasy come January 20. SCE Korea also announced via press release that, as a bonus, pre-orders (which are valid from Jan 12-14) will come with a Dissidia desktop calendar."

It's unknown whether if the U.S will get the same treatment when Dissidia finally stops in the U.S. Article can be read here [4] Zeta Nova 10:03, 13 January 2009 (UTC).

Reference for Shantotto

I have put my reference for the character of Shantotto back. I originally put that there to do the same thing as the links placed on the names of the other characters: Namely to show the character's background to anyone who hasn't played FFXI online or to people who may not be familiar with the Tarutaru NPC. This was not to show that the character was in by any means so please just leave it. If there was an article describing Garland or the Warrior of Light I would reference those as well. Nope, but I have no intent to add it to article until I found the OFFICAL source, as it is appearing on forums and a deviantart entry. Also, the Robert Newell in question did the voice of one of the heroes in the Mazinger Z movies. But I guess there's no page for him yet. Fractyl (talk) 04:26, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
