Proposed creating new page for "Alex Zhang Huntai" to highlight non-Dirty Beaches[edit]

See also Cjgrillo's similar proposal below.

Rationale: Dirty Beaches wrapped as a project 4 years ago and Zhang has been active as a solo artist for almost as long as Dirty Beaches were a project. I think it would make sense to have a Dirty Beaches page for that project and another one for Zhang as an artist (his notability has been attested by multiple mainstream and specialized press articles).

Or else, it might even make sense to rename his entry "Alex Zhang Huntai" and make the Dirty Beaches project into its first "Career" section. Music4airports (talk) 20:03, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I concur Music4airports, this page should just encompass Dirty Beaches as a project, and mentions of Huntai's solo or beyond-DB projects should be reserved for his personal page (e.g. Trent Reznor and NIN, The Mars Volta and all their side projects, etc.). Dirty Beaches has toured and released a number of albums and singles over the past five years. In 2010 he began to receive major press attention. Pitchfork listed his song "True Blue" among the year's best. Early in 2011 he released the album Badlands, his first widely released full-length, which has received reviews from major music sites, including a highly positive one in Pitchfork, who also interviewed the musician and listed him as a "rising" artist (whatever that means... but apparently it's a notable measure of hype for Pitchfork readers). He has performed at SXSW 2011, being noted as one of three highlights there by the Washington Post. He has played a Daytrotter Session. He is noted for a style of music consisting of sampling, critiquing and paying homage to 1950s pop records, rockabilly and punk, inspired by the film noir of David Lynch and Wong kar wai, as well as his family's immigrant experience and his own travels.

I don't have time to do the work today of making this page what it should be, with necessary references, but I was shocked the page didn't exist yet, and anyone who has followed the alternative music press lately will agree the artist is notable and overdue for a wiki treatment.

Proposed renaming of article[edit]

Hungtai has retired his Dirty Beaches project and is now making music under the name "Last Lizard." Should this article's name be changed to "Alex Zhang Hungtai" and include something in its opening stating that he is best known for his recordings under the stage names Dirty Beaches (with a note about its retirement) and Last Lizard? - Cjgrillo (talk) 19:44, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
