Discussion[edit]

I have changed the date, as it was incorrect. I have also changed the synopsis, as Jeff Kinney has released more information on the book.

I am suggesting that this article be deleted, because not much information can be found yet.Fcbbminiestadi (talk) 13:43, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I love trivia do not remove it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Armascout (talkcontribs) 18:11, 19 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Armascout: Per WP:TRIV, Trivia is not meant for Wikipedia; that could be the reason why people are frequently removing the section. Thissecretperson (talk) 17:18, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia section[edit]

Per WP:TRIV, please do not re-add the Trivia section on this page. Thank you. Thissecretperson (talk) 17:09, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also, per WP:EW, please refer to its rules if you wish to stop the edit war concerning the trivia. Thanks again. Thissecretperson (talk) 15:45, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In this edit summary (December 11) Armascout made an incorrect charge of vandalism. ("I am undoing vandalism and will keep doing this until the vandal gives up"). People are expected to wait for the result of a discussion when there is a disagreement on what belongs in the article. In principle, we don't include trivia in our articles, but what constitutes trivia depends on agreement among editors. Leaving a ping for User:Armascout to let him know his edit is being discussed. Despite being the editor that added the {{reduce trivia}} and {{importance section}} originally instead of just deleting, I respectfully disagree that Armascout's reversion led to a discussion on the relevance of the section, and any implication that the information should stay until such a discussion concludes. Armascout called the section "Trivia" and it has no references (which already makes it subject to removal by any concerned editor). Multiple editors have independently demonstrated in edit summaries their opinion that the information is irrelevant. Armascout has demonstrated above that they know where the talk page is and that they are unconcerned with our guidelines on trivia, further reinforced by edit summaries. Armascout has not returned to the discussion on this page nor responded to the posts on their Talk page. I applaud the effort to enforce process and teach a new member, but a page needn't remain in poor condition because one rogue editor reverts all others and only comments in edit summaries. —Ost (talk) 18:59, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I reread some of the rules and both the replies under this section, maybe I should rephrase the first sentence:
"Per WP:TRIV, please do not just re-add the Trivia section on this page. You must give a reason that supports your edit and/or provide a logical structure with reliable sources."
Yeah, that's a better way to rephrase what I said some time ago. Thissecretperson (talk) 00:13, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kinney's dislike of technology[edit]

One thing I noticed as I read through the book is that Jeff Kinney seems to really not like phones and technology. There are multiple scenes telling us how "phones are bad." I have compiled three examples in this imgur album. There's no question that this is due to Jeff Kinney's own thoughts. Here are some quotes from Kinney:

  • "What we really want for our kids is to be fully socialised and to hold a conversation with one another and I think that's what's being lost. If I get in the car with my kids now everybody's on their phone... and it feels weird to drive around with everybody on their phone. I think it is being lost, not just slightly, and I think that we're all complicit as parents as well. It's on my mind all the time."
  • "Screen time is the issue that every parent is facing these days."
  • "During the time I have been writing books, kids' relationships with their electronic devices have changed dramatically. It gets harder to write about childhood without mentioning phones and texting. It's a little bit harder for me to have him in the real world but to ignore this major component of childhood."

The Long Haul, especially in its film adaptation, brings this topic up by having Susan ban electronics from the road trip. The Getaway, however, discusses this more often.

Is this worth mentioning on the article? How would I write it with a neutral point of view? Does this apply to any of Kinney's other works (besides The Long Haul)? Scrooge200 (talk) 18:14, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
