Change use[edit]

Further to a proposal here I have split that article; the small amount of information there that was specific to the island I have moved here; the remaining article (most of the content) is re-focused on the eponymous penal colony. I trust everyone is OK with that. Moonraker12 (talk) 17:20, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Moonraker12, I disapprove your decision. The island itself and the penal colony contained on it identify so strongly each other, that nothing can justify the present article. I suggest to merge Devil's Island (Kourou) into Devil's Island. Kintaro (talk) 15:30, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Political prisoner?[edit]

Whilst the Soviets did have such a category, did the French? On what basis was such a determination made and who made it? The recent use of the term is for those who were imprisoned by the state because they acted subversively - but in accordance with human rights. By contrast Dreyfus was a scapegoat to cover up a real crime. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ender's Shadow Snr (talkcontribs) 11:30, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
