Ravi Shankar is not the owner of the team. William Clay Ford is.

Even if they have top-10 draft picks year-in and year-out, they have obviously undermanaged or mismanaged them. They have failed miserably in attempting to build a team around whatever top draft picks they get, the same way they failed Barry Sanders, who literally had to carry the entire team on his shoulders, year-in and year-out, because they were unwilling to build a playoff-contending team around him. It is no surprise he retired the way he did, even though, at 31, he was less than 1,500 yards (a full season) away from Walter Payton's career rushing record.

They have not made the playoffs since Barry's retirement. And except for last year (7-9, after a 6-2 start), they have lost 10 games or more every season. They can keep changing coaches and players until a blizzard in July, and they'll continue to be the laughing stock that the Buccaneers used to be, a long time ago, before they won Super Bowl XXXVIII. Clearly, it is not Coach Marinelli's fault, because they have had very decent coaches in the past, and they've still had terrible seasons year after year.

Again, it is not the fault of the players or the coaches that this team is headed for a perfect losing season; certainly not at this point. Is an epic legacy of bad management that has hurt this team; so much, that I wouldn't be surprised if some players start to go out of their way to try and avoid ending up on this team.

I wonder how much credibility Bill Ford has with the front office of the NFL. I'm thinking that maybe Goodell should jump on the bandwagon in forcing him to sell this team. I'm from NYC, and I'd hate to see once-legendary teams become dumping grounds for bad or mismanaged players and coaches because of ignorant or indifferent owners. I hope Detroit wakes up and forces Ford to sell the Lions before he completely runs them into the ground. Not that he already has, in my opinion.

The Years of Millen

I think someone should make a section that talks about the Millen years :)

The Millen Regime should be added. I second the motion.

I know this is out of the blue, but I have to say this... Lions = Embarassment. Tis why I'm a Jags fan.

How can this article not mention the most famous Lion ever?

This page has been deluged with vandalism over the last few days, and in an effort to remove a lot of nonsense, I believe I have also removed several positive contributions, especially in the "notable alumni" section. My apologies to regular page contributors but the vandalism was a bit too messy to pick through, and I think the damage is minor and easily repaired. Calvin Johnson is listed first on the depth chart over Mike Furrey for the right side. At this point that is completely speculation as next years depth chart has not been set. Rodney Peete and Scott Mitchell are not Lions Legends. Detroit Panthers Disambiguation Page

Since 1) the Lions aren't the NFL Detroit Panthers in direct lineage, 2) there is a basketball team named the Detroit Panthers, 3) there apparently was a second post 1920s football team called the Detroit Panthers, and 4) there was the USFL team the Michigan Panthers, I suggest that the Detroit Panthers redirect would be better served pointing to a Detroit Panthers disambiguation page than here. I made a new re-direct page for "Detroit Panthers (NFL)" that goes to the "Early football in Detroit before the Lions, 1920-1928" section of this article. I also redirected "Detroit Panthers" to "Detroit Panthers (PBL)". Since the other 2 teams are defunct, the modus operandi is that it goes to the current team's page with a disambiguation for the other 2 on the top of it. Millen section has multiple issues that need to be addressed

I marked the Millen section with three tags. It has several WP:weasel words and WP:tone violations, as well as numerous unreferenced claims. Please help improve it by sourcing the questionable information and removing the opinions of him. Uniforms?

Why is the uniforms picture gone with a "no picture available" over generic black ones? The rumors of them changing to something new haven't been officially confirmed by the team. Whoever removed them please explain your reasoning in doing so. TomCat4680 (talk) 02:17, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

• It is not a rumor. I've already been faxed the official uniforms for both their home and away games. The change isn't all that dramatic, but they are slighty different. The new uniforms will be posted on their Wikipedia page after the Lions hold a press conference Monday, April 20 at Dunham’s Sports in Madison Heights to unveil the team’s comprehensive new brand that includes a new logo, new uniforms and other branding elements.

Everyone,

Even though the Lion's new logo and uniforms have leak out to the press and on the internet, please respect the Lions' organization and DO NOT post any pictures until they have officially revealed them during the 2009 NFL Draft. I've already created the new uniforms for their Wikipedia page, but like I mentioned above, out of respect to the Lions, I'm holding off until after the press conference on Monday, April 20. I expect everyone else who uses Wikipedia to do the same.

• Agreed. Somebody deleted the 2009 Detroit Lions' uniforms. Yes, they are wearing the black uniforms again. They only stopped wearing during the 2008 season because it was the 75th Anniversary of the Lions and they chose to wear a throwback uniform. Never have the Detroit Lions mentioned that they were getting rid of the alternate black uniform permanently. The AUTHENTIC black uniform can still be purchased at the official Lions Shop for this exact reason. If somebody can provide a document that states that the Lions are PERMANENTLY getting rid of the alternate uniform, please provide it. Detroit News Logo Contest

The article states that 'On March 7, 2009, The Detroit News reported a Kentucky man had won a contest for the new Lions logo design. The Lions have not confirmed his logo design as official, however.'

The contest in question was run by the Detroit News, NOT the Detroit Lions. The way this sentence is written is misleading. It's not that the News reported a Kentucky man had won "a" contest for the new logo, it's that the News held their own contest for a new logo. Merger proposal

I don't see why Logo and uniforms of the Detroit Lions needs it own article, since they have basically remained the same except for a few minor tweaks over the years. I do not understand why there's a separate wiki-uniform page for any NFL team, regardless of how many changes they may have had. It just makes the whole thing too complicated for the average internet surfer that wants a one-stop webpage to look up information on a certain professional team. Lets please keep this all simple. It is Wikipedia and not an official website of the National Football League. My vote is to merge it back......that's my .02 cents. I'm curious what others have to say.

I took the information out because it was irrelevant to the subject at hand, which is the Detroit Lions. If it is in fact true, it may be relevant enough to be included at Tim Allen, but identifying "Hollywood's biggest Lions fan" -- a status that is unverifiable, by the way -- doesn't help the reader to understand the Lions anymore than identifying "Topeka's biggest Lions fan." Ok sorry about the sock puppet accusation. Back to the issue, like I said before, Allen is undeniably a huge Lions fan and he's not ashamed of it. 1. He came on an episode of Leno in full uniform. I don't know the exact date (probably at least 5 years old I'm guessing and lots of copyright rules to get around, so a clip would probably be nearly impossible to find), but I remember watching it. However: 2. the Home Improvement episode (which he probably convinced the producers to make single-handedly) is available on the season 7 DVD set; I own a copy of it, so thats clearly extremely easy to prove. Inaccurate data

History and the Logos and Uniforms section

So, I decided to create a history page for the team to match every other NFL team aside from the Texans. Since the section was so small to begin with, I replaced it with a link to the new page. However, that left a real lack of space in the logos and uniforms section. I've done my best to incorporate as many images as possible and made use of the ones I couldn't get into the section in the new article. The Lions Legends section includes Barry Sanders and Dick LeBeau, who are already included from the "Hall of Fame Players listed above". Sanders and LeBeau should not be listed again in the Lions Legends section, as none of the other Lions HOF'ers are listed again in the section.

The article goes on to state how "Ironically, the Lions were 4-0 in the pre-season." I thought it might interest readers to also know that (Ironically) they were the only team that same year to go undefeated in the pre-season. This can be verified by looking at the final pre-season standings for that year. Please delete According to USA Today, the Lions have added two new directors of scouting evaluation. Naveed Carim and Brett Jaksim were discovered by Martin Mayhew to work under Sheldon White in all scouting capacities. They have brought on their own system of player evaluation called the "PANDIAN" system, which they developed while attending the University of Michigan and the University of Oregon respectively. because it is entirely false. These two have nothing to do with the lions.

The shade of Honolulu blue

So if you go based on the logo being used on the team page, the RGB of 0-109-176 converts to the hex #006DB0  , which agrees with this site: here, BUT, if you go with this site: here, you'll see a darker shade of #005A8B   being used as the official team shade. New shades of Honolulu blue and silver

I don't want to go around making a bunch of changes yet, but I've read from Paul Lukas at Uni-Watch and from sportslogosnet on their twitter page that the new official shade of Honolulu Blue is now Pantone 2196. I can't find anything "official" from the Detroit Lions or the NFL, but I guess this is more of a heads up to possibly change the tables and other visuals on Lions-related pages in the near future. I have no idea if the silver is staying the same or not.

The move from Portsmouth, Ohio

Since Portsmouth, Ohio was a central part of The Underground Railroad during the 1860's, and according to Wikipedia, many African-Americans continued North and ending in Detroit, I was wondering. What does this mean:

This statement is incorrect: "They are the only franchise operational for the entirety of the Super Bowl era not to appear in the Super Bowl".

The Cleveland Browns have also been around for the entire time and never been to the Superbowl. The Texans and Jaguars are expansion teams, so they don't count for this, but the Browns do.
