Pacific station or Pacific Squadron?[edit]

It was named by Captain Richards in 1864 for Rear Admiral Joseph Denman who was commander of the Pacific station from 1864 to 1866

Just curiosu if "Pacific station" there might be synonymous with the RN Pacific Squadron, which was based at Esquimalt (from a certain date onwards; beforehand I think it had been at Callao, Peru or Valparaiso, Chile. Rather nont synonmous but the palce the Squadron was based at, i.e. Esquimalt. We know he commanded the Sutlej at Clayoquot Sound in '64 but the guy in charge of the whole squadron would have had his pick of ships present; whether taht was his "assigned vessel' maybe somebody at hte RN pages can help out with. As for the similar name Denham, just as an aside, I lived in an apartment at, hmm, Jervis and Pender, or was it at Bute and Pender, that was "The Denham"....in its very last days, I was one of the last tenants; a once-fine old '20s mock-not-quite-Tudor in teh bad old days when parts of hte West End were still low-market (cehap)≥Skookum1 (talk) 01:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tree Cover edit[edit]

I've removed the section indicating that the Northern portion of the island has been stripped of tree cover, which may be slow to regenerate due to soil type. Clearly, this segment was a speculative sentence, added in response to the logging of the northern portion of the island; at the time, it was speculated that the northern part of the island would become a sandy barrens. Ten years after the logging, it is evident that tree cover is re-establishing at a relatively normal rate. The claim that regeneration 'might' be slow has been answered in the negative; hence the segment is no longer relevant (and ought not to have been included in an enyclopedic account in the first place: not the proper place for speculative, non-referenced POV statements). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.110.123.197 (talk) 04:31, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
