"Various other artists have also covered the song."

Is this necessary to say if they're not notable enough to be mentioned by name? 12.162.122.6 (talk) 16:26, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Grammatical Goof"[edit]

It was brought up in this revision that the use of "you and I" is a grammatical goof. Since the whole phrase is "With you and I defying gravity", then "you and I" is the subject, which makes "and I" correct. "You and me" is used when not the subject, such as "Dan told that to you and me". The Pony Toast 🍞 (Talk) 19:45, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You know what, I take that back. The full phrase is "There's no fight we cannot win / Just you and I defying gravity / With you and I defying gravity" So the use of with in this case actually makes the "you and i" phrase objective, which means that, yes, it should actually be "you and me". So you're correct there. The Pony Toast 🍞 (Talk) 19:54, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your analysis. That said, I still don't think that content belongs in the article, because it seems to be original research. The genius.com citation added by 129.22.115.74 supports the fact that "With you and I defying gravity" appears in the lyrics, but not the claims that the phrase is ungrammatical, that the ungrammaticality is unintentional, that the "with you and me" alternative violates internal rhyme, or that "It's you and I defying gravity" would be a better phrasing. If someone could find a quote to that effect from the song's writer, or some other significant musical theatre source, maybe it would be worth including. I am resubmitting in order to avoid making it appear as the dreaded original research. I have a citation for the grammatical principle (the broader idea is that the compound pronoun phrase still uses the same case as a single pronoun would). The rest will be reworded. 129.22.115.74 (talk) 18:16, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I undid this, it is still a violation of WP:SYNTH. Gain consensus here before trying again please. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:25, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
All right, so now what? Here, I found a source that actually does talk about it. https://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/05/12/99-grammar/ What do you people suggest to make it an acceptable edit?129.22.115.74 (talk) 18:53, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You should provide a) a reliable source that b) discusses the grammar of this song. The source you've provided fails both criteria. Reach Out to the Truth 01:45, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Meh. If we went about documenting every single grammatical error in every popular song, it would never end. TJRC (talk) 00:04, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
