Differences between D1NZ and D1GP[edit]

As a non-Kiwi, recently, I found out though edits between this and the D1GP page that these two are not related. Good question. User:Cstubbies probably knows the answer. Cstubbies is fairly new, so you probably should leave a message on his/her talk page asking him/her to answer this question. I've been helping to develop this article since Cstubbies is new. Royalbroil 03:58, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to find info about this but have come across nothing official. As far as I know, during 2006 D1GP held two rounds in New Zealand completly seperate to the D1NZ series. One round was in the north island and one in the south. From this they picked the top four drivers from each round and invited them to the D1GP All Stars event held in Irwindale. Only four of the eight drivers chosen got to the event , I presume because of financial reasons. D1NZ has been around since 2003 and is a completely seperate series to D1GP. In 2003 or 2004, there was some controversy about the name 'D1NZ' as it was too similar to 'D1GP'.

I have checked www.d1nz.com and www.d1gp.co.nz but cant find anything relating to this. If you would like to help out trying to find something official on this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Cstubbies 18:09, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That same controversy also applied to the original D1UK series (now European Drift Championship, lost the moniker in 2004 previously D1GB as it was an official franchise) and D1 IRL (renamed Prodrift Irish Series in 2006) and the same with this financial thing when D1 Corp couldn't afford to ship the top 5 UK cars over to Irwindale despite being originally offered as a prize (considering this link here). As a result 2 drivers, Phil Morrison and Damien Mulvey took part in cars provided by the organizers and Darren McNamara, despite finishing 11th, came with his own car as he acquired a new sponsor (Falken Tires) and has since been competing in Formula D in their livery since.

I don't know the whole story myself, I think the UK and Ireland lost that D1 moniker when Silverstone became the host in 2005 and the former got it back as a short lived franchise. Willirennen 01:09, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

definitely, it continues to grow in both size and coverage each year. D1NZ is now separated into D1NZ and Pro-Amateur. It has managed to retain the D1NZ name. I'll try to update when I get a decent block of spare time.124.168.203.61 (talk) 23:30, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
