Bicycling in New York[edit]

Saw the Bicycling in Chicago article but couldn't find anything similar for New York City and, IMHO, there is so much more to say about bicycling here than there is in Chicago. What with the ubiquitous delivery guys, the messengers, and, lest we forget, the NYPD! Doored and other city biking terms[edit]

I suppose one should explain what 'doored' means in the context of cycling in NYC. Any ideas where it would go? A Dangers and annoyances section perhaps but that seems too travel-like. Is there a set of specific to New York cycling lingo?--RegentsPark (talk) 22:28, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bicycles have been banned throughout New York City.[edit]

Apparently, it seems that the city of New York has recently put a new ordinance into effect that completely bans bicycles from the city. And that means all 5 boroughs; Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. Under this new ordinance, bicycles, tricycles, quadricycles, and unicycles can not be ridden on either the street, the sidewalk, or the alley. I understand that people are very passionate about bicycling in NYC, but this page is not a promotional tool that can be filled with a high number of external links within the text—the same applies to all Wikipedia pages. Bike Lanes[edit]

There was much coverage and controversy over the Bike lanes. I am debating to either create a section in this article or possibly create it's own article. I will see based on the sources. So far I am finding well covered sources on this topic itself. It looks like I will create an article for itself and add key points into this article. Vision Zero: 10775 pedestrian injuries, 148 pedestrian kills, 4592 bicyclist injuries 18 bicyclist kills due to Motor Vehicle drivers[edit]

I would suggest adding a reference to the Vision Zero program:

In 2016, in NYC citywide, there was 10775 pedestrian injuries, 148 pedestrian kills, 4592 bicyclist injuries 18 bicyclist kills due to Motor Vehicle drivers[1], which is less than in the USA, where in 2015, 5,376 pedestrians and 818 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Traffic Safety Facts). These two modes accounted for 17.7 percent of the 35,092 total U.S. fatalities that year[2].

Kew Gardens 613, I think the reason why there's no separate article on bike lanes/infrastructure yet is because it could be described in this article as well. This page is pretty deficient in terms of content (it is only rated start-class) and could be expanded with bike infrastructure. epicgenius (talk) 21:01, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
