Pronunciation[edit]

How does one pronounce "colichemarde"? This is probably fairly relevant, since the article mentions how the name may be derived from "Konigsmark" due to similarities in pronunciation. (I'm guessing something along the lines of "ko-lish-merd" or "ko-li-che-mar-de"?) Macroidtoe 03:55, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

George Washington Citation[edit]

I've tentatively added a citation for the claim that George Washington owned a colichemarde-bladed smallsword. I found scans from a book here[1], and I'm going to try to obtain a copy of the book to get the full publication information and page number (unless someone who already has the book would like to do it first). Too Short A Season[edit]

Globalizing[edit]

This article is/was US-centric. I have reworded to improve globalization. The first section is about the development of the blade in Europe. Therefore, I have used the term Seven Years' War. More specific information about this period would enhance the article, as would sources other than American ones (not counting Burton's debunked idea).

The second segment is (now) all about North America so I have split it off and applied the term French and Indian war. The reference to duels in New Orleans needs to be dated. Were colichemardes used by French and Spanish officers? Was it used by officers outside the 13 colonies? Did George Washington carry one during his early career in the colonies?
