criteria[edit]

The article said that Cotahuasi Canyon does not meet the criteria of a canyon. I have lived in the Cotahuasi Canyon now for 6 years and have personally explored it extensively. It does meet the criteria of a canyon, having been eroded from a high alto Plano area of from 4500 to 5000 meters altitude. It is not gorge-like between mountains, but has rather flat surroundings on both sides. The deepest part that I have observed is located on the North side, across from an extinct volcano - Mount Solimana, which is 6093 meters or 19,995 feet. My measurement is from the canyon edge at 5,000 meters down to the Cotahuasi River at 1600 meters, a drop of 3,400 meters. The location for this is near a village called Charcana. I have verified this by topographic map and my own exploration assisted by my GPS. Therefore, I have edited the change in this article. The information about the "canyon" in Tibet is also questionable. The Tibetan feature appears to be more gorge like rather than canyon like, being an eroded feature surrounded by high mountains and not flat surroundings. Therefore, I believe the Cotahuasi canyon should be regarded as the deepest "canyon" in the world. Brad Shaw December, 2006

Cleanup and Citations[edit]

Facts and claims in the article may be true but they require reliable citations and references. The only two sources provided are as external links.

Secondly the article seems like a copy paste from some source. It requires cleanup. I have made some changing but an expert in this field is needed. Samar (Talk . Contributions) 18:29, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Photos of Condors?[edit]

Given that the likely interest of many if not most visitors to this page is to see the condors when they visit Colca Canyon, would it not be sensible to have a picture of the condors cruising in the canyon? I have a few but they are not very good so hopefully others will pitch in here. Yes, of course there is interest in the depth of the canyon and in the hot springs but...--50.68.140.76 (talk) 19:49, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
