Perhaps someone can figure out the earlier holders from this web page, if you think it is relaible, though I notice that Brian Tuke is not mentioned. I am working on a draft for a Brian Tuke article and understood that William Paget succeeded him but the web site above seems to have other different holders between 1532 and 1539 and Thomas Knight appears to overlap William Paget's term. It seems to confuse some of the other specific sources that show individual office holders elsewhere like this and this that both say Paget's term started in 1532. Any thoughts? ww2censor (talk) 23:53, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Quite reliable. (The list was compiled by Sir John Sainty, sometime Clerk of the Parliaments.) The list does not include holders before 1539. It appears from this document that Tuke relinquished the post of Clerk of the Signet when he was appointed French Secretary (1523?), and was succeeded by Thomas Derbye. Well, OK, he slips a little on the forenames sometimes. I've more or less managed to stitch together the pre-1539 holders. Choess (talk) 01:37, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed I not spelling of Bryan, Tooke and Toke just to confuse matters. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 02:14, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
