Tone of article[edit]

Geez, a PR flack wrote this ("moving from strength to strength"-makes her sound like a college basketball player; and growing up among the "smart set"-perhaps that has some sort of layered meaning to about 9 people living in some ritzy part of Manhattan but other than that it just sounds....meaningless).

Feedback loops[edit]

The system has failed. In particular, I have failed. You see, when I read this article I missed this nugget of wisdom.

After nine years together the marriage fell apart due to Perelman's infidelity with socialite Patricia Duff.

This was added by an anon ip user in this diff. I've reviewed the two hard-copy sources that discuss their marriage, When Money Is King by Richard Hack and Testosterone, Inc by Christopher Byron. Neither book says the marriage fell apart due to Perelman cheating. The two books were written from two completely different backgrounds and points of view. Richard Hack is an old-school gossip hound and wrote a fluffy biography about Perelman with lots of inside-gossip. If there were credible rumors that the relationship had fallen apart due to Perelman cheating on Claudia, Richard would have heard and included it. Meanwhile, Christopher Byron was an investigative reporter with an axe to grind. If there was any evidence Perelman had cheated on Claudia, Byron would have included it, highlighted it, and ran it straight into the ground. Claudia was a GOSSIP COLUMNIST. Do you really think something this juicy wouldn't have made its way into Page Six? Finally, many sources (Including Richard Hack!) say the breakup was Perelman instigated. Why would a marriage fall apart 'due to Perelman's infidelity' if he was the one that initiated the divorce proceedings? According to Richard Hack, she was STILL in love with him at the time of their divorce.

So why am I writing such a long screed for one little sentence? Because of the New York Daily Fucking News! One of the first reports of Claudias' death came from them and they repeated that line in their article almost verbatim. Let's record it here for posterity.
