firehall?[edit]

what the heck is a firehall?!

first mention i took it to mean a fire station, but context later implies some sort of concert hall.

A Firehall (alternate spelling "Fire Hall") in the USA and Canada, is a Fire station. In this context this Firehall is a rural, volunteer operated Fire Station that has a sort of community hall attached. In this part of Canada, volunteer Fire Stations have to raise a portion of their operating funds as they are not fully funded by the local municipality. The hall attached to the Fire Station is used to earn income for the Fire Station by hosting parties, weddings, and other community functions. Volunteer_fire_department#Canada Ken Heaton (talk)

ok, tx. i'm in new england, but i've never heard of this concept. function halls around here tend to be private groups like elks, moose, masons, KoC, VFW, AmLeg, hunting/game/fish, or various ethnic fraternities -- italian club, polish club, etc. FDs and PDs sometimes have events there, but i've never seen a town where they ran the halls themselves.

are they always distinct halls? or are u including cases where the dept moves the engines out and has functions in the truck bay itself? THAT i've seen around here. 198.147.225.21 (talk) 05:08, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
