Confusion of Two Positions[edit]

I must disagree with the list of Chiefs of Staff for WW I. These gentlemen--Joffre, Nivelle and Petain--were commanders in chief. I realize that the situation was rather fluid, and I have not yet located useful sources, but what I have found so far (Pertinax, Gravediggers of France) is that both Foch and Petain served briefly as Chiefs of the General Staff while Nivelle was commander in chief of the army in the field. That alone indicates that there is a problem with these listings.

It might be better to find who the actual Chiefs of Staff for the time period are and just replace the names in here with appropriate sources. That's better than just leaving a gap. Silver seren^C 03:59, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it would be better to find more accurate info--both names and dates, with sources--on the actual C/S succession. It might take a while, but I'll keep looking as I have time. I'm just saying what's there now is wrong; if you prefer wrong information to gaps, don't worry--it may take some time to find the right info, and in the meantime there will be an impressively gapless (albeit incorrect) section in the article, which at least will look pretty. Sources/General comment[edit]

Hello,

On 12 September 2020, legifrance.gouv.fr, the government website hosting the laws and decrees of France was updated. Unfortunately, by doing so, the PDF versions of the decrees nominating at the offices were deleted. As a consequence, all sources between the 50's and the 90's are now dead links. I'm searching for an alternative.
