David James[edit]

It would be good to have something in the article about the notorious thefts of the 1980's: http://www.rte.ie/radio1/doconone/radio-documentary-chester-beatty-islamic-art-david-jame.html --Rudolphs revenge (talk) 12:37, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Museum or Library?[edit]

Chester Beatty now calls itself a 'museum', not just a library: https://chesterbeatty.ie/about/ It seems the entry title should be modified. Thanks. --Malekfarugh (talk) 00:35, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chester Beatty LibraryChester Beatty – The Chester Beatty Library is now referred to just as the Chester Beatty, and the article reflects that. Chester Beatty currently redirects to Alfred Chester Beatty, the museum/library's founder, but I believe this should be changed, as the institution would seem to be the slightly more primary topic, given current usage. The article does receive marginally more page views. Paul_012 (talk) 16:44, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: That might be a bit of a WP:SURPRISE, as Chester Beatty was obviously a person, not a library. I see that the library is indeed promoting itself as "the Chester Beatty", but that does not really seem to be its common name in independent reliable sources. The vast majority of independent sources that I have found using a quick web search seem to include "Library", and a few use "Museum" – but basically none call it just "Chester Beatty". For example, The Irish Times published an article only 6 days ago that calls it the Chester Beatty Library. Irish Examiner used Chester Beatty Library three days ago here. Irish Independent used Chester Beatty Mueseum three weeks ago here. MENAFN called it the Chester Beatty Museum in this article six days ago. Stars Insider called it the Chester Beatty Library here two months ago. I think Alfred Chester Beatty should probably be moved to Chester Beatty, since that seems to have been his common name and I suspect "Alfred" is only included for disambiguation purposes. No one should be surprised if they look for "Chester Beatty" and find an article about a man named Chester Beatty. — BarrelProof (talk) 00:05, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: I agree with BarrelProof. If anything it might get changed to Chester Beatty (library) to distinguish it from the man, but that's hardly worth the trouble. ww2censor (talk) 10:15, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per BarrelProof. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:00, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

I have just removed from External links the handlists of Arabic manuscripts not currently working as it says they are being redeveloped. In my opinion even when redeveloped they are not something for Wikipedia, but rather for the Chester Beatty's own website. What do others think?Aineireland (talk) 22:14, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
