Associated acts and genres[edit]

In making a series of changes to this article, I was recently met with disagreement from fellow user @Almostangelic123:. I reinstated the edit without discussion, which I definitely should not have done (and which Almostangelic justly called out). However, I still believe the edits I made are improvements.

One of the sources of contention was that "associated acts that were added are NOT associated! Especially when it’s a producer who has only produced one or two songs". I believe this to be either a mischaracterization of information or a possible blind spot, as I changed the associated acts.

I removed Icona Pop and Iggy Azale, as both have only collaborated with Charli once. This to me seems to clearly not define an "associated act", as that would mean Christine and the Queens, Sky Ferreira, Tommy Cash, Haim, Lizzo, Big Freedia, Clairo, and Yaeji would all be added just from Charli's feature list alone.

As for additions and changes here, I added BJ Burton, Danny L Harle, Dylan Brady, Easyfun, and Stargate. These are producers Charli has worked with extensively:

  • Burton executive produced How I'm Feeling Now in addition to producing or co-producing six tracks from it. That alone warrants a significant connection.
  • Harle should be removed, I thought he'd collaborated with her more than twice but I was mistaken.
  • Brady has produced three songs on her last two albums, contributed music to a fourth, remixed a song, and collaborated with her as part of 100 Gecs.
  • Easyfun (real name Finn Keane) has produced five songs himself and another two with Easy FX (him and Cook).
  • Stargate have produced seven songs for Charli, including a few for that cancelled album a few years back.

Saying that producers being invalid inclusions because of a couple songs while including Azalea and Icona Pop is misguided in my opinion, but it's also outright incorrect as I've illustrated. Also, I moved Nasty Cherry to the top, as generally acts that an individual is a member of are placed first. There's no MOS for this so I have no strong feelings about its placement, but that's why I moved it up.

As for genre, I simplified to pop and pop-punk based on Template:Infobox musical artist#genre. Dance-pop, electropop, and avant-pop are all subgenres of pop, so a simple "pop" can cover it with further subgenres being explored in the article body, rather than repeatedly putting weight on the Cosmopolitan source as if a single magazine has more bearing than the numerous other sources listing genres in the same section. Pop-punk is largely considered a subgenre of rock so its inclusion made sense to me as a clear distinction.

This has been very long, but hopefully it explains my changes and thought process better. I'd love to hear thoughts from both Almostangelic and any other editors who follow this page. Sock (tock talk) 16:57, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
