Underground tunnel[edit]

@47thPennVols: You had mentioned that there are above ground tunnels. Indeed there are, however extremely rare, and mostly modern inventions. Are there above ground tunnels at the time of the Civil War with which the reader could be confused? Very unlikely. Also, you have to read the context with which underground tunnel is mentioned. It's mentioned that it went "under the Confederate lines" which means it's under the ground, therefore redundant. So your argument that you don't want the reader confused with "merely near" the army is moot, since it already says "under the Confederate lines".
