Soft hard[edit]
Most people would say 'ch' is soft in cheese, hard in Christ (like Italian). Calling the 'ch' in cheese hard and the 'ch' in Chartres soft (like French) is more uncommon (most people would say refer to the soft French ch in English simply as 'sh').
