Damage after Earthquake[edit]

The Church is half destroyed after the Earthquake in Christchurch. --193.71.127.134 (talk) 19:28, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is already mentioned in the article. Btw, the description "half destroyed" comes from initial reports, it seems more specifically it's mainly the facade (the towers and pediment), that partially collapsed. ChiZeroOne (talk) 00:31, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand has no minor basilicas.[edit]

Although the church is called popularly "basilica", has not been declared a minor basilica by the Vatican. New Zealand has no minor basilicas: Minor basilicas in the world.--83.38.38.190 (talk) 20:13, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Christchurch Cathedral[edit]

Meanwhile, the decision to demolish the Anglican Cathedral has caused great controversy. One commentator has asked why there is "relative silence over the future of the Basilica for the Catholics who are allowed to get on with their decision-making processes in relative peace, while the Anglicans have to fight it out in the streets and letters to the editor pages of The Press? I suspect there remains in Christchurch the notion of old that the Catholics are still regarded as peripheral, parked over on the edge of town in an area back in the day that was next to the gas works that turned the cathedral a nicotine yellow. Now the distance from the heart of the city seems to have at last paid off as the Basilica's counterpart in the Square can't get out of the ring".[29]

This paragraph is focussed the Christchurch Cathedral, and only mentions the Basilica as a comparison to that. It would suit the Christchurch Cathedral article more than this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.60.223.226 (talk) 10:35, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I read it the other way around: it focuses on the Catholic basilica and mentions the Anglican cathedral as an appropriate comparison. Roger 8 Roger (talk) 18:30, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. Outright removal is thus not appropriate. I'd be happy for it to be rewritten so that it more specifically focusses on the Catholic Cathedral. Please give it a go if you wish; otherwise, I'll restore what was there before. Schwede66 19:03, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't make sense. The very first sentence sets it up as Cathedral-centric, and it's complaining about how the Anglicans are being hamstrung. 122.60.223.226 (talk) 11:36, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Then rewrite it so it does make sense to you. Schwede66 17:12, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's a quote from Jane Bowron. It makes no sense to rewrite a quote, so it should be removed. 122.60.223.226 (talk) 23:04, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament[edit]

Should a new page now be commenced dealing with the new proposed RC Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament?Emendment (talk) 22:01, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That would meet notability requirements by now so yes, please go ahead and start something. Schwede66 00:51, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK when I get time in the new year unless someone else obliges.Emendment (talk) 06:23, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Replacement[edit]

Hi, since the Christchurch Cathedral is not completed yet, it cannot be the "permanent" replacement but remains "proposed". Elizium23 (talk) 10:23, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, makes sense. I'll leave it as is. Cheers Lord A.Nelson (talk) 10:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
