Earthquake[edit]

If this has indeed been destroyed, a new photo of the rubble needs to be included. 76.66.197.17 (talk) 13:18, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

there was a photo on TV, showing only one wall left standing.--dunnhaupt (talk) 21:51, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
the article implies that news of the cathedral's destruction have been exaggerated. Here is a before and after. It looks pretty destroyed to me:

The before image was deleted. 70.29.210.242 (talk) 07:01, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The walls look largely intact. This building was severely damaged, not destroyed. It could be rebuilt, if there was a will to do so. I suggest that the article be amended to say that the building was seriously damaged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.15.138 (talk) 20:22, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

date it was built[edit]

the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince and this page have different dates for when the cathedral was built. Anyone know the official date? Nctennishco12 (talk) 20:11, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading title to this Wiki page[edit]

The reason why this is a misleading title is because it implies that the Roman Catholic Cathedral of The Assumption was the 'only' cathedral in Port-au-Prince, in January 2010. Possibly also implying that this was the only Cathedral in the capital of Port-au-Prince and regarded that way by the Haitians.

This is not so. See Wikipedia article entitled [1]. This cathedral was completely reduced to rubble in the earhquake whereas the R.C. cathedral had at least a wall standing for a while, although I believe that it was subsequently pulled down my source for that was news reports after the event. There is also an Episcopal diocese wiki referenced in that wiki [2] .

The episcopal cathedral is listed on a list of "cathedrals" for Haiti as a separate wiki.

The Episcopal diocese of Haiti also has its own website http://www.egliseepiscopaledhaiti.org in a mixture of French and English.
