"The French "franc", introduced in 1360, was the first coin anywhere to represent exactly £1". This statement might need some clarification. £ abbreviates livre/libra etc but it is still the modern symbol for GBP. As an aside I recall the rule of thumb £1 ~= 10F back in the '80s. Good point, it doesn't mean £1 sterling but could be read as that. I've changed it. to pfund or "pound". Bermicourt (talk) 10:53, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
