Nationality[edit]

I gave Carol Hughes's nationality as American, which I remember from somewhere, but I can't find a reference now, so this may need correction. Robina Fox (talk) 18:25, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Identities[edit]

It may simplify matters to know that "Carol Hughes" who wrote the nursing romances Nurse at Golden Water and Nurse in Disgrace was a pseud of Ivy Rose Hughes, 1910-1995 (who also wrote as Catherine Hay) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.97.253.114 (talk) 02:48, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I added a long Note concerning the identities confused at LC and WorldCat. Contemporary Authors Online, cited by LC for the birth year "1955 (one source gives 1961)", may or may not be confused.

WorldCat attributes (that is, at least one of its participating library catalogues does, in each case) two Nurse romance novels, one each to the 1955 and 1961 birthdates. FictionDB says those are #9 and #23 in the Mills & Boon Medical series, published Mar- and Oct-1978. For one Carol A. Hughes it shows another romance fiction published 2013 [1]. 1978 is early for one born 1955, ntm 1961; 2013 is late enough that she is not likely to be the same person.

So Young, So Sad, So Listen (2005) by Graham & Hughes is a popular non-fiction about depression in children. I suppose its record [2] means that LC checked the British Library (BL) for the writer of this book, and BL says Carol Lindsay born 1955.

I hope to

  • notify LC Catalogue, perhaps prompt it to assign some more Carol Hughes books to one of the two with birthyears, or to augment its Contemporary Authors citation.
  • check a university library for access to Contemporary Authors Online. [not available to me]

I might have linked WorldCat attributions that seem astray, and do so now. Born 1961: one 1978 Nurse novel OCLC 877251189 and one 1995 nonfiction as editor OCLC 432715343. Born 1955: one cooperative 2005 film OCLC 216652628, another 1978 Nurse (Dutch) OCLC 63303083, one Toots (Turkish) OCLC 251053965, and the childhood depression (Tamil) OCLC 795552938.
ISFDB gives birthyear 1955 without a source (notably not Wikipedia-EN, which is common there). It lists those 7 titles we list, among which Jack Black is tagged "young-adult". --21:14 P64
To Carol Hughes undifferentiated ('Hughes, Carol', no date), LC Catalogue attributes its 2006 copy of Jack Black; So Young, the 2005 depression book by Philip Graham and Carol Hughes; the 1996 [1995 above] nonfiction as editor, proceedings of a conference at Harvard LCCN 97-105804; a 1937 film Renfrew of the Royal Mounted; and a a posthumous book by Ted Hughes, translator, signed by his widow Carol Hughes (Hughes), I infer
