Stadium history: President Kennedy visit[edit]

Article title[edit]

This article seems to indicate that the official name is "California Memorial Stadium", but that does not appear to be the case. The official Cal athletics site calls it only "Memorial Stadium", as does the ESPN College Football Encyclopedia. This was similarly discussed recently at Talk:Memorial Stadium (University of Kansas)#Article title. Are there any objections to moving this to Memorial Stadium (California)? Stadium capacity[edit]

It looks like there are differences on the capacity of the stadium. This source from Calbears.com lists the official capacity at 75,662. This source, also from Calbears.com, lists the official capacity at 71,799 (which I used to cite my change). If you go through the facilities page at Calbears.com, you'll get to the second link. In addition, this year's media guide lists the official capacity at 71,799. As of now, it looks like 71,799 is the "official" capacity. Patken4 (talk) 20:08, 7 July 2009 (UTC) Seating capacity at Cal Memorial has fluctuated throughout its history. When it opened in November 1923, the official capacity was close to 80,000 seats. I have yet to find an official number for the original official capacity. During the Pappy Waldorf years (1947-1956), there were several games where attendance was listed at 83,000, the 1947 Navy and USC games being just two such events. The additional capacity was realized by installing temporary bleachers above the East Rim. Once those temporary bleachers were dismantled in the early 1960s, the official seating capacity at Cal Memorial has never been more than 75,662. Seating capacity has dropped over time as seating for patrons in wheelchairs was added, primarily in sections on the East Side, necessitating the removal of seats for people who do not require wheelchairs. Seating capacity at Cal Memorial will drop significantly due to the West Side Renovation (aka Phase II). Row depth that had been 22 to 24 inches when the stadium opened in 1923, will now be anywhere from 30 inches to 33 inches on the reconstructed sections of the West Side (Sections VV through XX; Sections A through MM), and as much as 36 inches deep in the University Club area in the Press Box. Seat widths will also widen in the rebuilt sections depending on location (18-22 inches wide).FiatSlug (talk) 00:04, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Inset Box - Construction Costs[edit]

There is something wrong with the construction costs in the inset box.

In the main article, these are listed as either $321,000,000 or $445,000,000, depending on how you count. The box lists a $1,xxx,xxx figure and an "$18,xxx,xxx (2011)" cost. While it appears to be the case that the annual debt services is $18M, those numbers are otherwise totally wrong and misleading. Perhaps the $1.xM figure was in 1923.

The construction costs for the 2011 retrofit should be at least $321M.

Missing photo[edit]

The Wikipedia article California Golden Bears football "The team plays its home games at California Memorial Stadium... modeled after the Colosseum in Rome." So I came here, to look for a photo that shows this. There is not one photo that shows any of the stadium's architecture! In fact, even though there are 13 photos, all but one is a photo of the interior. The one exterior photo shows a giant pit in the ground and gives no visual information about what this stadium looks like. Could someone post a photo of the actual outside of the Stadium?
