Photo[edit]

The photo on this page is not a good representation of Cafe du Monde, as it is taken at an angle that really shows a walkway leading up to the restaurant in the foreground, and the bulk of the photo is the building across the street from the cafe. We may want to update this with a photo of the cafe itself taken from across the street.SpikeJones 21:02, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the part that we see isn't even the building; it's the outdoor extension that they set up. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs, blog) 20:55, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
As the previous top photo showed more of the Lower Pontabla Building across the street than it did of Cafe du Monde, I replaced it with a photo showing more of the original location. (The previous top photo and others can still be seen on the Commons link.) -- Infrogmation 06:03, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Post-Katrina Aftermath[edit]

"It is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, except for Christmas Day (and days when "the occasional hurricane passes too close to New Orleans," according to the shop's Web site), and is patronized by both locals and visitors."

Terrible irony post Hurricane Katrina. Is the Cafe still there? :(

One AP article states that is it still standing. Source: "Iconic locations in New Orleans damaged by Katrina," found at WWLTV.com --B.M. Barnes 04:57, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

When I was there in September 2006, the Cafe was open, but no longer 24 hours a day (it was closed between midnight and 6 am). Their website does not make mention of this, so maybe they are back to 24 hours now? Capmango 17:52, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I go to school in New Orleans. It's open 24 hours again. Nothing like fried dough to wash down a Hurricane (no pun intended) at 3 AM. Eclectek C T 23:04, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget the chicory coffee to jolt you back awake!  ;) ArkansasTraveler 18:32, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actual COFFEE[edit]

I'm a Northerner. I believe the canned "chicory coffee" they put out is more famous than the store itself. I've seen it in pretty much every US city, and many foreign ones. Yet did not know until this wiki that there was a shop behind it, or where.

How about an article on THAT? Or a bigger section? I came here more to see what chicory coffee IS. Are they the ONLY place know for making this, or all of Nola? Or the whole state even? Other states?

That is, is "chicory coffee" a widespread THING in the south, or just their own creation? And did they actually "invent" it, or just make it popular? 173.9.95.217 (talk) 22:56, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notable[edit]

I removed the just added dubious notability tag. If there is such a thing as a notable cafe, this certainly is one. Well known to both locals and visitors, it is prominently featured in any guidebook to New Orleans, and is one of the top regional tourist attractions. It has appeared in multiple novels set in the city as part of the local atmosphere. The post-Katrina reopening was covered by news services internationally. Note there are already articles about it in Wikipedias in two other languages. I agree that references can and should be improved, however. -- Infrogmation (talk) 15:04, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
