Commons picture of the Hindenburg Line[edit]

The newly-arrived picture is very interesting but the caption writer seems to have confused Bullecourt (south-east of Arras and in the motorway triangle between the A1, A2 and A26) with Bellicourt (on the N44, a kilometre or two to the south of the American Memorial over the Saint Quentin Canal tunnel). (RJP 22:45, 11 June 2006 (UTC))[reply]

The view is taken looking eastwards across the short section of the Saint-Quentin Canal which lay in a cutting between two tunnels. It is immediately to the north of Bellicourt which is in turn, 13.5 km north of the centre of Saint-Quentin.

The inscription on the photograph is a little misleading on two counts:

  • 1. it gives Bellicourt the name of Bullecourt which in reality is some 33km to the north-west and
  • 2. it makes the site indicated, the south-west part of the village when in reality it is the north-western part of Bellicourt.

In this photo, the American Memorial is by the 'e' of Picardie to the north of the village. The Hindenburg Line can be seen in soil marks in several places, particularly south of the D331 road number. The centre of the old photo is by the N44 road number north of the village. I have copied the picture from the Commons where the caption mentions "Bullecourt". The picture was also already in the Hindenburg Line article, with the "Bullecourt" caption. In fact, there may be a mistake there, since the Hindenburg Line is refered to as "Hindenberg Line" in the caption in the Commons. I have created the Bellicourt article in the English Wikipedia, and you can move the picture there if you think it is appropriate. Thank you. olivier 07:11, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I was wrong. It is the Commons note which is misleading in that the picture is of the Hindenburg Line at western end of Bullecourt and not anywhere near St Quentin Canal and had little to do with Americans. What appeared to be the canal in a cutting when my mind was directed in that in that train of thought,is barbed wire. (RJP 08:34, 26 June 2006 (UTC)) For an interpretation of the picture, see here. Administration[edit]

I removed the bulky "Administration" table from the body of the article, as there is already provision for the current mayor and his or her term of office to be shown in the infobox. In my view there is a great deal more basic work that needs to be done on the communes of France before we start worrying about compiling lists of past mayors! Incidentally, are the mayoral term of offices -- normally 6 years, exceptionally extended to 7 for the current term -- not the same for all of France? In which case, couldn't this item be omitted from an already well (even over-)stocked infobox? -- Picapica 13:40, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
