Finding a source for its family inheritance[edit]

I am a descendant of the Buckinghams and visited the house. The owners (very distant cousins of mine) informed us that this house has never been bought or sold, only passed down to descendants and relatives. Can anyone advise me on what type of source I might be able to cite in order to include this interesting information in the article? Of course I can go digging myself and learn more about what records are out there,but if anyone could point me in the right direction to verify the word-of-mouth information I received, I'd greatly appreciate it!
