Performers at the Bronx Opera House[edit]

Cited: Will Rogers in 1914, the Marx Brothers, George Burns, Gracie Allen. These are all problematic. I can't completely rule out the Marx Brothers, George Burns and Gracie Allen yet but the reference to Will Rogers is specific, available online and wrong.[1]. The authors of the book mention that Rogers played at Keith's Bronx Theatre and that it was later renamed the Bronx Opera House. This error, as far as I can tell, originated in the Directory of Historic American Theatres published in 1987. It can be easily established that the Bronx Opera House and the B.F. Keith's Bronx Theatre were different venues but also that on February 2, 1914, the date Will Rogers was performing with the Grazers, Dora Pelletier, Consul and His Adoptive Daughter and Lewis and Dody (all vaudeville performers), the Bronx Opera House was opening with Klaw & Erlanger's production of Eugene Walter's The Trail of the Lonesome Pine.

Consequently I'm going to go ahead and remove Will Rogers. If somebody has any evidence to the contrary, I would love to hear about it.

For the Marx Brothers, George Burns and Gracie Allen, it cannot be completely ruled out at this point because, although the Bronx Opera House was a legitimate theatre, it started featuring Sunday vaudeville matinees in its 1915-1916 season or possibly earlier.

All the other performers mentioned have definitely played on the stage of the Bronx Opera House.
